The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of undefeated Avantazh-Politekhnik (10-1) in Symferopil on Saturday night. Visitors were rolled over by Musson (16-1) 98-60. It ended at the same time the ten-game winning streak of Avantazh-Politekhnik. The game was mostly controlled by Musson. Avantazh-Politekhnik managed to win second period 21-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Musson dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Avantazh-Politekhnik's 22. They outrebounded Avantazh-Politekhnik 49-32 including 19 on the offensive glass. It was a good game for center Nikola Eromin (207-C-85) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 30 points and 12 rebounds (on 13-of-16 shooting from the field). Russian center Dmitri Lipovtsev (207-86) contributed with 25 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. The former international guard Timur Arabadzhi (192-81) replied with 16 points (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) for Avantazh-Politekhnik. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Newly promoted Musson maintains first position with 16-1 record. Avantazh-Politekhnik at the other side keeps the third place with one game lost. Musson are again looking forward to face Avantazh-Politekhnik (#3) in Kharkov in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Avantazh-Politekhnik will have a break next round.
Bottom-ranked Ternopil-TNEU is still unable to win any game. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their 13th consecutive match to second ranked Khartsyzsk (13-2) 105-65. Center Vladimir Orlenko (214-85) had a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) to lead the charge for the winners and Sergei Sabutskyy chipped in 19 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. The best for the losing side was guard Anton Nifonton (190-89) with 24 points (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!). Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Khartsyzsk maintains second position with 13-2 record having five points less than leader Musson. Ternopil-TNEU at the other side still closes the standings with 13 games lost. Khartsyzsk will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Ternopil-TNEU will play again at home against the league's second-placed Khartsyzsk (#2) in Donetsk and hopes to get finally their first victory.
The game in Kirovograd was also quite interesting. Sixth ranked VolinBasket (7-4) played at the court of 8th ranked Kirovograd (5-12). VolinBasket defeated Kirovograd 77-63 on Saturday. Artem Shelukha notched 15 points and 7 rebounds to lead the effort. VolinBasket's coach Sergei Smityukh used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Even 18 points and 7 rebounds by Anton Rozhkov did not help to save the game for Kirovograd. VolinBasket have an impressive five-game winning streak. They moved-up to fifth place. Kirovograd lost seventh consecutive game. They keep the eighth position with 12 games lost. VolinBasket will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Kirovograd will play again against VolinBasket (#5) in Lutsk and hope to secure a win.
