Eleventh ranked DniproAzot won a double-overtime thriller edging 9th ranked Mykolaiv by one point 86-85 on Friday night. Americans were the main players on the court. Worth to mention a great performance of Eric Devendorf who helped to win the game recording 25 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. DniproAzot's coach Audrius Prakuraitis used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. DniproAzot maintains eleventh position with 11-17 record. Mykolaiv at the other side keeps the ninth place with 15 games lost.

There were no shocking results in the other games in round 40: Khimik lost to Halychyna on the opponent's court 72-80. BC Odessa unfortunately lost to Cherkasy in a home game 71-80. Ferro-ZNTU rolled over DniproAzot on the road 96-73. Budivelnyk defeated BC Kyiv on its own court 72-62. Mykolaiv was smashed by Dnipro in Dnepropetrovsk 82-63. Kryvbasbasket lost to Cherkasy at home 77-90. BC Donetsk unfortunately lost to Azovmash on the opponent's court 85-88.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 41 points (!!!) and 11 rebounds by R.T. Guinn of Ferro-ZNTU.


Halychyna - Khimik 80-72

The game between closely ranked teams ended with 5th ranked Khimik's (15-12) road loss to fourth ranked Halychyna (17-10) 72-80 on Sunday. The game without a history. Halychyna led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They made 29-of-37 free shots (78.4 percent) during the game. Khimik was plagued by 31 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of Serbian power forward Vladan Vukosavljevic (206-84, agency: Beo Basket) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 19 points and 13 rebounds and forward Leonid Stefanishin (199-85) who added 17 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side American-Bulgarian point guard Willie Deane (188-80, college: Purdue, agency: Higher Vision Sports) responded with a double-double by scoring 12 points, 7 rebounds and 14 assists and Serbian power forward Sava Lesic (205-88) scored 13 points and 5 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Halychyna have an impressive seven-game winning streak. They maintain fourth position with 17-10 record. Khimik at the other side keeps the fifth place with 12 games lost.

Very predictable result when seventh ranked Cherkasy (15-13) defeated on the road 12th ranked BC Odessa (9-18) 80-71 on Sunday. The guests trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 12-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 80-71. Cherkasy dominated on the defensive end, holding BC Odessa to just 7 points in second quarter. They outrebounded BC Odessa 38-26 including 29 on the defensive glass. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Charles Thomas (203-86, college: Arkansas) who helped to win the game recording 18 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists and the other American import forward Vincent Hunter (208-84, college: Arkansas) who added 16 points and 7 rebounds during the contest. Four Cherkasy players scored in double figures. At the losing side swingman Denis Noskov (202-90) responded with 19 points and 9 rebounds and the former international swingman Rostyslav Kryvych (197-78) scored 12 points. DniproAzot was better in third quarter 19-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Ferro-ZNTU shot the lights out from three sinking 18 long-distance shots on high 56.3 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of American R.T. It was a great shooting night for Cherkasy especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.9 percentage. Kryvbasbasket was plagued by 29 personal fouls down the stretch. Very expected game in Mariupol where 9th ranked BC Donetsk (13-14) was edged by second ranked Azovmash (19-8) 88-85 on Friday. However just three-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 30-24. But BC Donetsk won second period 20-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Azovmash won last quarter 21-19. Worth to mention a great performance of American point guard Lynn Greer (186-79, college: Temple) who helped to win the game recording 21 points and 6 assists and the former international center Oleksiy Pecherov (213-85) who added 15 points and 9 rebounds during the contest. Four Azovmash players scored in double figures. Defending champion Budivelnyk Kyiv (Superleague) agreed terms with 27-year old center Igor Chumakov (208-105kg-90) from SK Cherkasy Monkeys. In 39 Superleague games he had 11.6ppg, 5.2rpg and 1.3apg last season. He helped them to make it to the semifinals. Chumakov ended the previous (2015-16) season at Furstenfeld Panthers in Austrian A Bundesliga where in 16 games he recorded 6.3ppg, 4.3rpg and 1.1bpg.
