Olexandra Kurasova selected the top Ukrainian playing abroad in last week's games - Feb 4, 2013

We bring you last week's top performances from Ukrainians who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.

   #1. This week's number one is an international forward Olexandra Kurasova (186-86, currently plays in Euroleague), who plays in Spain. She could not help Rivas Ecopolis (6-5) in their last game. Despite Kurasova's very good performance the fourth-placed Rivas Ecopolis lost 66-74 on the road to the higher-ranked (#3) Wisla Can-Pak in the group A of Euroleague. She was the top scorer with 15 points (made all of her six free throws) in 27 minutes on the court. Kurasova's team will play only one more game in the Euroleague Regular Season. And that game will be critical. Kurasova has relatively good stats this year: 14.5ppg, 4.0rpg, 1.1spg, 2FGP: 51.0%, 3FGP: 43.3% and FT: 92.0%(23-25) in the 11 games she played so far. She is currently a member of the Ukrainian senior national team.

   #2. Second place goes to former international guard Olga Dubrovina (170-87, agency: LBM Management, currently plays in Bulgaria). Dubrovina led Neftochimic to a victory over the closely-ranked Levski (9-9) 81-63 in the Bulgarian NBL last Saturday. She was MVP of the game. Dubrovina scored 21 points, grabbed 6 rebounds and dished 6 assists (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line). It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Neftochimic 2010 Burgas (17-0) is placed first in the NBL. So far her team won all seventeen games in the Regular Season. Dubrovina is currently second on the league's list of best passers and also on the list of most steals (third place). She has very reliable stats this season: 14.2ppg, 4.0rpg, 5.5apg, 2.3spg, 2FGP: 49.6%, 3FGP: 34.6% and FT: 83.1%. Dubrovina played for the Ukrainian national team in 2011.

   #3. The Ukrainian player who performed third best last week abroad was former international forward Olena Gulyamova (185-84, currently plays in Germany). She contributed to an easy victory against the 11th-ranked Rhein MB II (3-12) crushing them 104-58 in the German 2.Bundesliga (12th division) last Saturday. Gulyamova had a double-double by scoring 13 points and getting the same number of rebounds. She also added 5 assists and 3 blocks in 34 minutes. ASV Moabit Berlin (13-2) is placed second in North group. It was her team's fifth consecutive victory in a row. This year Gulyamova averages: 8.2ppg, 6.5rpg, 2.2apg, 1.2bpg, 2FGP: 52.1%, 3FGP: 15.6% and FT: 66.7% in the 13 games. She played for the Ukrainian national team seven years ago.

   #4. Center Lyubov Alyoshkina (203-81, currently plays in Belarus) was the main contributor in a Olimpia GrGAU's victory against the closely-ranked Sozh Gomel (5-9) crushing them 86-62 in the Belarusian Premier League on Wednesday night. Alyoshkina was the best player in that game. She recorded a double-double by scoring 17 points and getting 14 rebounds. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. SBK Olimpia Grodno (12-1) is placed first in the Premier League. It was her team's 12th consecutive victory in a row. The Second Stage already ended. Alyoshkina is the league's best rebounder. This season she has very good stats: 12.5ppg, 11.0rpg and 1.2apg. Alyoshkina has a dual citizenship: Russian and Ukrainian. She is also Ukrainian national team player.

Former international power forward Olesia Malashenko (189-91, also represented by LBM Management, currently plays in France) contributed to Arras' surprising victory against the league leader Lattes Montpellier (15-3) 75-71 in the French LFB in Saturday night's game. Malashenko scored 10 points and grabbed 9 rebounds in 23 minutes. Arras Pays d'Artois Basket Feminin (5-13) is placed second from the bottom (#13) in the LFB. It's Malashenko's first season with the team. This year her overall stats are: 9.3ppg and 4.0rpg in the nine games. Malashenko used to play for the Ukrainian national team three years ago.

   #6. Swingman Olena Samburska (172-89, another player represented by LBM Management, currently plays in Bulgaria) contributed to a Montana 2003's victory against the closely-ranked Haskovo 2012 (8-9) 81-68 in the Bulgarian NBL on Saturday night. She scored 14 points, grabbed 4 rebounds and dished 6 assists in 32 minutes. Montana 2003 (7-10) is placed fifth in the NBL. They ended the series of three consecutive loses. This year Samburska has relatively solid stats: 12.0ppg, 2.6rpg, 3.6apg and 1.2spg in the five games. She is an international player who is currently on the senior Ukrainian National Team roster.

Former international forward Olga Maznichenko (187-91, another player represented by LBM Management, currently plays in Italy), who plays in the Italian A1 was not able to help Pall.Pozzuoli (3-10) in their last game on Sunday. Despite Maznichenko's good performance Pall.Pozzuoli was badly defeated 78-60 in Cagliari by the one of league's weakest teams Cagliari CUS (#10). She recorded 11 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. Maznichenko is currently ninth on the league's list of top scorers. She has very solid stats this season: 13.0ppg, 7.0rpg, 1.1apg and 1.5spg. Maznichenko used to play for the Ukrainian national team two years ago.

   #8. Center Aleksandra Khomenchuk (202-89, currently plays in Belarus), who plays in the Belarusian Premier League was not able to secure a victory for one of league's weakest teams Gorizont (9-5) in their last game on Wednesday. Despite her good performance Gorizont was defeated 68-60 in a derby game by the second-ranked Tsmoki-Minsk. Khomenchuk was the second best scorer with 11 points. She also added 9 rebounds. The Second Stage already ended. Khomenchuk is currently second on the list of best rebounders. Her total stats this season are: 9.4ppg, 9.8rpg, 1.2apg and 1.2spg. Khomenchuk used to play for the Ukrainian national team back in 2011.

   #9. Former U20 international center Alina Iordan (190-88, currently plays in Belarus) faced previously mentioned Aleksandra Khomenchuk in the Belarusian Premier League last game. Iordan helped Tsmoki-Minsk win their game against the closely-ranked Gorizont (9-5) 68-60 in a derby game. She recorded 12 points and grabbed 8 rebounds in 32 minutes. The Second Stage already ended. Iordan is currently seventh on the league's list of best rebounders with 7.3rpg. She also averaged so far 9.8ppg in the 14 games. Iordan used to play for the Ukrainian U20 national team five years ago.

   #10. Center Anna Kiriyenko (190-93, currently plays in Belarus) faced previously mentioned Lyubov Alyoshkina in the Belarusian Premier League last game. Kiriyenko couldn't help one of league's weakest teams one of league's weakest teams one of league's weakest teams Sozh Gomel (12-5) in their game against Olimpia GrGAU (12-1). Despite her very good performance in Wednesday night's game She was the second best scorer with 13 points. Kiriyenko also added 7 rebounds. The Second Stage already ended. Kiriyenko is currently fifth on the list of top scorers and also on the list of best rebounders (third place). She has very solid stats this season: 14.6ppg, 9.5rpg and 1.3apg. Kiriyenko is U20 international player who is currently on the Ukrainian National Team roster.


The list of other players, who all have Ukrainian passport but never been selected to any of Ukrainian national teams:

   #1. Yuliya Andreyeva (188-SF-83, currently plays in France), who plays in the French LFB could not help Nantes Reze (9-9) in their last game. Despite her good performance Nantes Reze lost 75-84 on the road to the higher-ranked (#3) Perpignan. Andreyeva was the second best scorer with 12 points. She also added 4 rebounds in 32 minutes. It's Andreyeva's eighth season with the team. This year Andreyeva averages: 5.0ppg and 2.1rpg in the 18 games she played so far. She has a dual citizenship: Ukrainian and French.

   #2. Experienced Tatiana Zotova (196-F-70, currently plays in Greece) was the major contributor in Athinaikos' victory against the league outsider GAC Eunikos (0-15) crushing them 72-31 in the Greek A1 in Saturday night's game. Zotova scored 10 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. Sony Athinaikos (14-1) is placed second in the A1. It was her team's seventh consecutive victory in a row. This season Zotova averages: 2.1ppg and 2.6rpg.

   #3. Katia Levitsky (190-PF-85, agency: Data Plus Group, college: Villanova, currently plays in Israel) contributed to an easy victory against the closely-ranked Ramat Hasharon (6-8) 69-54 in the Israeli D1 last Monday. She recorded 8 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Elitzur Ramla (10-5) is placed second in the D1. It was her team's third consecutive victory in a row. They will play only one more game in the Regular Season. And that game will be critical. Levitsky is ranked fourth on the list of the best blockers in the league. Her total stats this season are: 9.9ppg, 5.4rpg, 1.8apg and 1.3bpg. Levitsky is another player who holds two passports: Ukrainian and Israeli.

   #4. Tatiana Shapochkina (179-G-85, currently plays in Belarus) was not able to help Olimpia GrGAU (12-1) in their game against Gorizont (9-5) in the Belarusian Premier League, despite her good performance last Saturday. She was the second best scorer with 12 points. Shapochkina also added 7 rebounds in 28 minutes. But the league leader Olimpia GrGAU lost 55-65 in Minsk to the lower-ranked (#3) Gorizont. It was Olimpia GrGAU's first loss after twelve consecutive victories. The Second Stage already ended. Shapochkina is currently eighth on the list of top scorers and also on the list of most steals (fourth place). She has very solid stats this year: 13.8ppg, 5.3rpg, 2.0apg and 2.7spg in the 13 games. Shapochkina has both Ukrainian and Russian nationalities.

   #5. Anna Sokolan (178-G-84, currently plays in Bulgaria) managed to help Neftochimic 2010 Burgas to win against the closely-ranked Levski (9-9) 81-63 in the Bulgarian NBL last Saturday. She scored only 4 points. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Neftochimic 2010 Burgas (17-0) is placed first in the NBL. So far her team won all seventeen games in the Regular Season. Sokolan is one of the most experienced players in a team as it's her seventh year in Neftochimic's roster. Sokolan's total stats this season are: 9.9ppg, 3.2rpg and 1.9apg. She also holds two passports: Ukrainian and Russian.

   #6. Elena Staschuk (192-C-85, currently plays in Belarus) was not able to secure a victory for one of league's weakest teams one of league's weakest teams Sozh Gomel in their game against Olimpia GrGAU in the Belarusian Premier League, despite her very good performance on Wednesday night. Staschuk had a double-double by scoring 23 points and getting 12 rebounds in 37 minutes. But her team was crushed by 24 points 86-62. She has individually a very good year with high stats. Staschuk averages: 19.2ppg, 10.0rpg and 1.4spg in the five games.

Talented International Center Miriam Uro-Nile (188-C-94, agency: LBM Management) had an amazing evening in the last round for Tim-Scuf and that's her to receive a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 6. The 22-year old center had a double-double of 31 points and ten rebounds, while her team outclassed, the league's bottom-ranked team Tavriyska Zivka (#9, 0-6) with 46-point margin 107-61. Superleague Round 6: Interkhim loses #1 position - 6 days ago

There were many interesting games last round. The round ended with change at the leadership position, and even winless team recording their first victory. The biggest surprise took place in Kyiv where host Avangard (7-1) beat league's leader Interkhim (7-1) 70-63 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the seven-game winning streak of Interkhim.
