Higher League Round 15: Elizabeth-Basket beats Tim-Scuf in the most crucial game of the week - Feb 14, 2013

There will be only one (last) round of the Regular Season in Higher League.

An exciting game was played in Kirovograd. Second ranked Elizabeth-Basket faced 3rd placed Tim-Scuf. Host Elizabeth-Basket (14-6) defeated guests from Kyiv (8-8) 78-62. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Tim-Scuf. They outrebounded Tim-Scuf 42-29 including 28 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was international swingman Alina Iagupova (186-92, agency: LBM Management) who had a double-double by scoring 31 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists. The former international power forward Olena Zherzherunova (191-78, agency: LBM Management) chipped in 19 points, 16 rebounds and 4 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was forward Darya Zavidna (185-93) who recorded 16 points and 6 rebounds. Tim-Scuf's coach Inna Kochubei rotated ten players seeing no chance for a win. Elizabeth-Basket have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain second place with 14-6 record having just -2 point less than leader Dynamo. Defending champion Tim-Scuf keeps the third position with eight games lost. Elizabeth-Basket will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. In the last two games of round 15 Interkhim defeated Frankivsk-Hal. in Odessa 68-64. Bottom-ranked Frankivsk-Hal. was smashed by Interkhim at home 71-93.

There was no surprise when 6th ranked Frankivsk-Hal. (1-14) was defeated at home by fourth ranked Interkhim (8-10) 68-64 on Sunday. Frankivsk-Hal. was tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. Frankivsk-Hal. was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was guard Alisa Siromatnikova (165-87) who scored 21 points and 7 rebounds. Center Valeriya Liapina (185-87) chipped in 12 points and 9 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was guard Katerina Polyanychka (178-90) who recorded 23 points and 8 rebounds and Olga Chernenko added 12 points and 5 rebounds respectively. Interkhim maintains fourth place with 8-10 record. Frankivsk-Hal. at the other side stay at the bottom position with 14 games lost. Interkhim will face higher ranked Tim-Scuf (#3) in Kyiv in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.

No shocking result in a game when fourth ranked Interkhim (8-10) smashed on the road bottom-ranked Frankivsk-Hal. (1-14) 93-71 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Interkhim. Frankivsk-Hal. was better in third quarter 25-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 23-of-28 free shots (82.1 percent) during the game. The best player for the winners was center Diana Matvyeyeva (197-85) who had a double-double by scoring 18 points and 16 rebounds. Guard Alisa Siromatnikova (165-87) chipped in 22 points. Four Interkhim players scored in double figures. Interkhim's coach Iryna Shchipakina felt very confident using 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games.
