Culpepper
American point guard Randy Culpepper (182-PG-89) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for Ferro-ZNTU, receiving a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 43.
The 23-year old player got a double-double of 31 points and 10 assists, while his team beat BC Kyiv (#14, 6-24) in overtime 95-89. Ferro-ZNTU is placed at 3rd position in Ukrainian Superleague. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. Ferro-ZNTU will need more victories to improve their 19-11 record. In the team's last game Culpepper had a remarkable 61.1% from 2-point range. It's his second year at Ferro-ZNTU and it's hard to imagine this team without him. Former The Univ.of Texas at El Paso star has very solid stats this year. Culpepper is league's best scorer averaging so far 19.8ppg. Culpepper is in league's top in assists (8th best: 5.3apg).

The second best player in last round's games was 25-year old American Josh Mayo (182-G-87, agency: Stanislav Ryzhov) of Mykolaiv. Mayo had a very good evening with 25 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists. Bad luck as Mykolaiv was edged by the higher-ranked Azovmash (#2, 21-8) 90-88. Mykolaiv managed to keep the same 9th spot in the standings. His team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 14-17 record. Mayo is a newcomer at Mykolaiv, but is already one of team's top players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 16.4ppg (#9). His other stats are also decent: 4.3rpg and 3.9apg.

Third on the list of top players last round was American center D'or Fischer (211-C-81) of BC Donetsk (#8). Fischer showcased his all-around game by recording 16 points, nine rebounds and four assists in the last round. Despite Fischer's great performance BC Donetsk lost 71-78 to slightly higher-ranked Cherkasy (#6, 16-15). But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates. The last thing BC Donetsk needs is to lose another game like this one. They lose more and more distance to the top teams. Their record is 15 victories and 15 lost games. Fischer has a great season in Ukraine. After 26 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 6.7rpg (9th best). He also has 2.1bpg and FGP: 61.8%.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Michael Lee (207-F-86) of Halychyna - 27 points and 7 rebounds
5. Darius Songaila (204-C/F-78) of BC Donetsk - 23 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists
6. Lynn Greer (186-PG-79) of Azovmash - 22 points, 3 rebounds and 10 assists
7. Jarrod Jones (205-F-90) of BC Kyiv - 21 points, 10 rebounds and 2 assists
8. Cameron Moore (208-F-90) of Ferro-ZNTU - 12 points and 15 rebounds
9. Vladan Vukosavljevic (206-F/C-84) of Halychyna - 13 points, 9 rebounds and 2 assists
10. Oleksandr Kolchenko (194-F-88) of Azovmash - 16 points and 6 rebounds

The Player of the week is choosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3*(REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4*(2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3*(2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3*(3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)

Andriy Khokhonyk signs at Niko-Basket - 4 days ago
Higher League newcomer Niko-Basket Mykolaiv landed 20-year old point guard Andriy Khokhonyk (188-75kg-97). He started the season at MBC Mykolaiv (Superleague). Khokhonyk has played there for the last three years. Superleague was a little too high level for him, where in 20 Superleague games he averaged just 1.1ppg this season. Higher League will be definitely a better match and he can see more playing time. The last season Khokhonyk played also at Mykolaiv (SL Favorit Sport). Superleague...   [read more]
