Here is the weekly review of the top performing Ukrainian players, who play currently abroad.


Olexandra Kurasova

   #1. This week's number one is an international forward Olexandra Kurasova (186-86, currently plays in Spain). She led Rivas Ecopolis to a victory over the seventh-ranked Jopisa Burgos (6-9) crushing them 86-51 in the Spanish LFB in Saturday night's game. Kurasova was MVP of the game. She scored 21 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in 24 minutes on the court. Rivas Ecopolis (15-1) is placed first in the LFB. It was her team's fourth consecutive victory in a row. There are only four games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. Kurasova has relatively good stats this year: 10.9ppg, 5.6rpg, 2FGP: 45.7%, 3FGP: 42.4% and FT: 96.0%(24-25) in the 14 games she played so far. She is currently a member of the Ukrainian senior national team.

   #2. Second place goes to former international forward Olga Maznichenko (187-91, agency: LBM Management, currently plays in Italy). Maznichenko was the major contributor in Pall.Pozzuoli's victory against the closely-ranked C.U.S. Chieti (4-11) 65-59 in the Italian A1 last Sunday. She scored 11 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. Pallacanestro Pozzuoli (4-10) is placed seventh in the A1. There are only four games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game is very crucial. It's Maznichenko's first season with the team. This year Maznichenko has relatively solid stats: 12.8ppg, 7.0rpg, 1.6spg, 2FGP: 38.8%, 3FGP: 30.2% and FT: 82.4%. She played for the Ukrainian national team in 2011.

   #3. The Ukrainian player who performed third best last week abroad was former international forward Katerina Dorogobuzova (190-90, also represented by LBM Management, currently plays in Hungary). Dorogobuzova contributed to an easy victory against the third-ranked Atomeromu (14-9) 71-54 in the Hungarian A Division on Sunday night. She scored 11 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 25 minutes. It was the game of the round between two top 3 ranked teams in group Places 9-14. Bacsbasket Kft. Baja (21-4) is placed first. It was her team's fifth consecutive victory in a row. Dorogobuzova is currently fifth on the league's list of top scorers with 15.0ppg. This year her other stats are: 5.3rpg, 1.5spg, 2FGP: 52.2%, 3FGP: 42.6% and FT: 72.6% in the 22 games. Dorogobuzova played for the Ukrainian national team two years ago.

   #4. Power forward Olesia Malashenko (189-91, another player represented by LBM Management, currently plays in France), who plays in the French LFB could not help Arras (5-14) in their last game on Sunday. Despite her good performance Arras was defeated 72-64 on the road by the league outsider Union Hainaut (#14). Malashenko recorded 11 points. This season Malashenko averages: 9.5ppg and 3.8rpg. She used to play for the Ukrainian national team back in 2010.

   #5. International center Lyubov Alyoshkina (203-81, currently plays in Belarus) contributed to a Olimpia GrGAU's victory against the fourth-ranked Sozh Gomel (6-11) 64-53 in the Belarusian Premier League last Saturday. Alyoshkina had a double-double by scoring 14 points and getting 16 rebounds in 38 minutes. SBK Olimpia Grodno (16-1) is placed first in Group A. It was her team's third consecutive victory in a row. They will play only one more game in the Second Stage. And now that game is quite important. Alyoshkina is currently eighth on the league's list of top scorers and also on the list of best rebounders (first place). She has very reliable stats this year: 12.4ppg, 10.9rpg, 1.3apg and 1.1spg in the 16 games. Alyoshkina has a dual citizenship: Russian and Ukrainian. She plays currently for the Ukrainian national team.

   #6. Forward Olena Gulyamova (185-84, currently plays in Germany) managed to help ASV Moabit Berlin to win against the fifth-ranked Goettingen (10-7) 68-56 in the German 2.Bundesliga (12th division) on Saturday night. Gulyamova scored only 4 points, grabbed 4 rebounds and made 3 blocks. ASV Moabit Berlin (14-3) is placed second in North group. Gulyamova belongs to league's best blockers and is ranked #5. Her overall stats this season are: 7.9ppg, 6.4rpg, 2.1apg and 1.3bpg. Gulyamova is a former international player as she played for the Ukrainian senior team seven years ago.

   #7. Former U20 international center Alina Iordan (190-88, currently plays in Belarus) was not able to help Tsmoki-Minsk (12-5) in their game against Gorizont (11-6) in the Belarusian Premier League, despite her very good performance in Saturday night's game. She was the top scorer with 19 points. Iordan also added 9 rebounds in 30 minutes. But the second-placed Tsmoki-Minsk was badly defeated 75-59 in a derby game by the lower-ranked (#3) Gorizont in the Group A. It was Tsmoki-Minsk's third consecutive loss in a row. Her team will play only one more game in the Second Stage. And now that game is extremely important. This year Iordan's overall stats are: 9.5ppg and 6.8rpg in the 17 games. She used to play for the Ukrainian U20 national team five years ago.

   #8. Center Anna Kiriyenko (190-93, currently plays in Belarus) helped Sozh Gomel win their game against the second-ranked Tsmoki-Minsk (12-5) 96-84 in the Belarusian Premier League last Wednesday. Kiriyenko recorded 21 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. It was the game of the round between two top 3 ranked teams in Group A. BK Sozh-GGU Gomel (15-6) is placed second. It was her team's third consecutive victory in a row. They will play only one more game in the Second Stage. Kiriyenko is ranked third on the list of the top scorers in the league and also on the list of best rebounders (fourth place). This season she has very good stats: 14.2ppg, 8.9rpg and 1.2apg. Kiriyenko plays currently for the Ukrainian U20 national team.

Former international center Aleksandra Khomenchuk (202-89, currently plays in Belarus) was not able to secure a victory for Gorizont (11-6) in their game against Olimpia GrGAU (16-1) in the Belarusian Premier League, despite her very good performance on Wednesday night. She had a double-double by scoring 15 points and getting 10 rebounds in 29 minutes. But Gorizont (#3) was badly defeated 73-55 at home by the leading Olimpia GrGAU in the Group A. Khomenchuk's team will play only one more game in the Second Stage. Khomenchuk is currently second on the list of best rebounders with 10.0rpg. This year her other stats are: 10.1ppg, 1.3apg and 1.2spg in the 15 games. Khomenchuk used to play for the Ukrainian national team two years ago.

   #1. Tatiana Shapochkina (179-G-85, currently plays in Belarus) led Olimpia GrGAU to a victory against the fourth-ranked Sozh Gomel (6-11) 64-53 in the Belarusian Premier League in Saturday night's game. She scored 13 points and had 5 steals. SBK Olimpia Grodno (16-1) is placed first in Group A. It was her team's third consecutive victory in a row. They will play only one more game in the Second Stage. Shapochkina belongs to league's top scorers (ranked #7) and also on the list of most steals (first place). She has very solid stats this season: 13.3ppg, 5.4rpg, 2.1apg and 3.0spg. Shapochkina has a dual citizenship: Ukrainian and Russian.

   #2. Elena Staschuk (192-C-85, currently plays in Belarus) faced previously mentioned Tatiana Shapochkina in the Belarusian Premier League last game. Staschuk, who plays in the Belarusian Premier League could not help Sozh Gomel (15-6) in their last game. Despite her good performance Sozh Gomel (#2) lost 53-64 on the road to the leading Olimpia GrGAU in the Group A. Staschuk had a double-double by scoring 14 points and getting 10 rebounds. She also added and 3 steals in 37 minutes. It was Sozh Gomel's first loss after three consecutive victories. Staschuk's team will play only one more game in the Second Stage. Staschuk has individually a very good year with high stats. She averages: 17.9ppg, 9.1rpg and 1.3spg in the eight games she played so far.

Frankivsk celebrate Higher League title - 13 days ago
Frankivsk celebrate Higher League title in Ukraine. The team finished the campaign with a 32-6 record on top. In the latest two games they beat Poltava 86-56 and 69-42. Kristina Filevich top-scored for the winners with 17 points and 10 rebounds in the second game. Diana Bondaryuk posted 16, whilst Sidorak netted 11.
