Pope number one in Ukraine for round 46 - Feb 25, 2013

Herb Pope
American forward Herb Pope (203-F-89, agency: Three Eye Sports) had an amazing evening in the last round for Kryvbasbasket, receiving a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 46.
The 23-year old player had a double-double of 22 points and 16 rebounds, while his team beat BC Kyiv (#14, 7-26) 82-69. The game rather meaningless between the teams, which do not have any influence on the top of the standings. Kryvbasbasket maintains the 10th position in Ukrainian Superleague. Kryvbasbasket is a typical solid league team placed somewhere in the middle or a little bit lower in the standings. They need more victories to improve their 13-19 record. Pope just recently signed at Kryvbasbasket, being already a very valuable addition to the team. Herb Pope averages this season 17.5ppg and 9.0rpg.

The second best player in last round's games was 31-year old American Derrick Zimmerman (191-G-81, agency: Three Eye Sports) of DniproAzot. Zimmerman had a very good evening with 15 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists. Bad luck as DniproAzot lost that game 70-90 to the higher-ranked Hoverla (#5, 18-14). DniproAzot is still in a red zone at 13th spot in the standings. His team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 11-21 record. Zimmerman is a newcomer at DniproAzot and despite he is not a team leader yet, every game he becomes more reliable player. Hopefully performances like the last one will happen more often.

Third on the list of top players last round was American guard Justin Love (189-G-78) of BC Odessa (#12). Love showcased his all-around game by recording 26 points, six rebounds and four assists in the last round. Despite Love's great performance BC Odessa lost 87-94 to the higher-ranked BC Donetsk (#8, 16-15). But his team cannot count on just a single shooter as he also needs help of the other teammates. The chances of BC Odessa not to end season at such low position in the league, however are less than slim as they have already lost 20 games, recording just eleven victories. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Love could try to bring BC Odessa's a little bit higher in the standings. Love has individually a great season in Ukraine. After 27 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 16.8ppg (7th best).

Other top performing players last week:
4. Lynn Greer (186-PG-79) of Azovmash - 21 points, 3 rebounds and 10 assists
5. Kevin Tiggs (196-G/F-84) of Hoverla - 22 points and 6 rebounds
6. Manny Harris (196-G-89) of Azovmash - 23 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists
7. Maxym Korniyenko (204-F/C-87) of Dnipro - 10 points, 11 rebounds and 2 assists
8. Kyrylo Fesenko (213-C-86) of BC Donetsk - 13 points, 16 rebounds and 2 assists
9. Leo Lyons (206-F-87) of Budivelnyk - 23 points and 5 rebounds
10. Ryan Pearson (198-F-90) of Hoverla - 17 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists

The Player of the week is choosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3*(REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4*(2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3*(2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3*(3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)

Superleague Round 30: Cherkasy defeat Khimik in the closest game of the week - 7 hours ago
The games are now more important than at the beginning of the Regular Season. We may still expect few shocking results in upcoming 4 rounds. The most exciting game of round 30 in the Superleague took place in Cherkasy. This derby game ended with only one-point defeat on the road of second-best Khimik (19-4) to fifth ranked Cherkasy (12-11) 84-83 on Saturday evening. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Khimik won fourth quarter 15-9. However it was no...   [read more]
Higher League Round 19 of Regular Season - 7 hours ago
Fifth-ranked SumDU (4-18) used its home court advantage to challenge second ranked Azovmash (15-9) in Sumy on Saturday. The visitors from Mariupol managed to secure only three-point victory 74-71. However their fans expected easier game. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of SumDU. Worth to mention a great performance of Kirilo Zuev who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 15 points and 17 rebounds. Azovmash maintains second place with 15-9 record...   [read more]
