Maksym
Fomichev
Ukrainian Superleague season 2014/15 just finished. Maksym Fomichev , share with us your impression of the season. Are you satisfied with results?
By the time season was short, just five months, it was tough, but very interesting. Despite the fact that according to experts, before the season our team was an obvious outsider, we managed to build up a strong collective and beat a few favorites of the tournament. However, we miss several important wins, so I can't be satisfied with our result.

Did you get your expectations of the season on the position of a Head Coach?
During the short period my players have made significant progress, so my expectations were met.

Many people were surprised that adult players listen to such a young coach, how did you make it?
Team chemistry is the main thing for me. In the team suppose to be an atmosphere of trust and unity. In order to win I need to know what my players are thinking about, what do they feel. It is very important that players feel comfortable and safety, they know that they can talk to me at anytime and for any reason, talk about thing far from the game. My players know that I'm always trying to help them and always got their backs, so they pay me back on the court. At the same time, between them and me we still safe certain distance.

During the season we saw two very different teams of 'Halychyna'. In the first round you have got only one victory. In the third round, it was a completely different team with the same squad, which has taken six wins! What is the reason for this transformation?

I came to the team just one week before the start of tournament, having played only one friendly game. In the first ten games we have won only once, and then I got fired. However, I have never ceased to believe in my players and myself. When team lost eight games in the row without me, I asked president to continue my job. I went back and made up for preseason training that we actually miss before the season, during the brake between second and third round. We worked up on the physical conditions and build up strong defense. This is gave us huge impact.

As far as I know, you do not have any assistant or conditional coach in the team?
Yes, this is true. I did conditional practices and scouting reports by myself.

You were not afraid to lead the explicit outsider, what do you think was the most difficult in the new club and a new position?
I'm grateful for the trust to the management. Every coach dreams of working at a big club and to be able to select players for their concept, but it must be earned by showing the result with a low-budget team.

What is your coaching philosophy?
I would be interesting to build up a team. I believe that with right system of working, even club with average financial capacity, can achieve great success!

What an achievement for a coach you consider as the greatest?
In Europe, it's clearly winning of the Euroleague. In USA - Larry O'Brien trophy. But the absolute maximum is to beat a Dream Team!
