Here is the weekly review of the top performing Ukrainian players, who play currently abroad.


Jerome Randle

   #1. This week's number one is former international point guard Jerome Randle (175-87, college: California, currently plays in Australia). He led Adelaide 36ers to a victory over the closely-ranked Illawarra Hawks (15-13) 93-78 in the Australian NBL in Thursday night's game. Randle was MVP of the game. He recorded 26 points (!!!), 6 rebounds and 4 assists in 30 minutes on the court. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Adelaide 36ers (17-11) are placed first in the NBL. Randle has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 21.2ppg, 2.9rpg, 5.3apg, 2FGP: 56.1%(192-342), 3FGP: 36.9% and FT: 89.9% in 29 games he played so far. Randle is a naturalized American. He played for the Ukrainian senior national team two years ago. Randle used to play for 90.2%; in Feb.'12 agreed terms with Azovmash Mariupol in Ukrainian league.

   #2. Second place goes to an experienced former international point guard Eugene Jeter (180-83, college: Portland, currently plays in China). He could not help TianJin Steel (19-19) in their last game on Friday. Despite Jeter's very good performance TianJin Steel was defeated 117-109 on the road by the higher-ranked Sichuan BW (#7). He recorded a double-double by scoring 33 points and making 12 passes. Jeter also added and 5 steals (made all of his eight free throws). His team will play only one more game in the Regular Season. And that game will be critical. This season Jeter has very high stats. He averages: 27.8ppg, 5.0rpg, 8.0apg, 2.0spg, 2FGP: 54.6%, 3FGP: 39.2% and FT: 88.8%. Jeter is a naturalized American. He played for the Ukrainian national team in 2014. Jeter used to play for BC Kyiv in Ukrainian league.

   #3. The Ukrainian player who performed third best last week abroad was an international center Viacheslav Kravtsov (212-87, agency: BeoBasket, currently plays in Spain). He contributed to an easy victory against the 13th-ranked Zaragoza (7-13) crushing them 100-67 in the Spanish Liga Endesa on Sunday night. Kravtsov scored 11 points in a mere 15 minutes. Valencia Basket (14-5) is placed fourth in the Liga Endesa. This year Kravtsov's overall stats are: 7.9ppg, 4.2rpg, 2FGP: 75.4%(46-61) and FT: 47.5% in 14 games. He is also a member of the Ukrainian senior national team.

   #4. Center Maksym Kozlovets (205-90, currently plays in Belarus) was not able to help COR-Borisfen (22-2) in their last game on Saturday. Despite Kozlovets' very good performance COR-Borisfen was defeated 90-82 at home by the lower-ranked Impuls BGUIR (#5). He recorded a double-double by scoring 23 points and getting 14 rebounds (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line). This season Kozlovets has very high stats. He averages: 17.5ppg, 8.7rpg, 2.0apg and 1.6spg. Kozlovets used to play for the Ukrainian U16 national team back in 2006.

   #5. Former international center Alex Len (216-93, college: Maryland, currently plays in NBA) contributed to an easy victory against the Los Angeles Lakers (19-39) crushing them 137-101 in the NBA last Wednesday. He recorded 15 points, 9 rebounds and 2 blocks in 23 minutes. The Phoenix Suns have rather weak 18-39 record this season. It's Len's fourth year with the team. Len has relatively good stats this year: 7.5ppg, 6.4rpg and 1.3bpg in 54 games. He used to play for the Ukrainian national team two years ago.

   #6. Forward Denis Ikovlev (200-86, college: Nevada, currently plays in Poland) was not able to secure a victory for PGE Turow (11-10) in their last game. Despite his good performance PGE Turow lost 63-73 in Dabrowa Gornicza to the higher-ranked (#6) MKS Dabrowa Gornicza. Ikovlev was the top scorer with 13 points. He also added 6 assists in 32 minutes. This year Ikovlev has relatively solid stats: 10.6ppg, 2.9rpg and 3.3apg in 20 games. He is a naturalized American. Ikovlev is a former international player as he played for the Ukrainian senior team four years ago. Strangely he has never played in Ukraine.

   #7. International power forward Igor Zaytsev (210-89, currently plays in Poland) contributed to Rosa's victory against the league outsider Stabill (3-17) 75-61 in the Polish PLK last Saturday. Zaytsev recorded 12 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. It was his first game for Rosa this season. His team is placed seventh in the PLK. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. Zaytsev is also Ukrainian national team player.

   #8. Guard Steven Burtt (189-84, college: Iona, currently plays in Greece) was the main contributor in an Apollon Patras' surprising victory against the fifth-ranked PAOK (10-8) 88-79 in the Greek A1 on Saturday night. He was the best player in that game. Burtt scored 20 points in 30 minutes. AS Apollon Patras (5-13) is placed 12th in the A1. Burtt has very impressive stats this year: 18.5ppg and 1.5rpg in two games. He is a naturalized American. Burtt used to play for the Ukrainian national team back in 2012. He played also for Ferro-ZNTU Zaporozhye in Ukrainian league.

   #9. International center Kyrylo Fesenko (216-86, currently plays in Italy) managed to help Scandone Avellino to win against the 14th-ranked VL Pesaro (6-13) 79-62 in the Italian Serie A in Sunday night's game. Fesenko recorded only 3 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. Scandone Avellino (13-6) is placed second in the Serie A. Fesenko has reliable stats this season: 10.6ppg and 6.7rpg. He is also in the roster of the Ukrainian national team.

   #10. Center Vladislav Korenyuk (210-94, agency: Octagon Europe, currently plays in Lithuania) couldn't help Siauliai (3-20) in their game against Lietuvos rytas (16-7) in the Lithuanian LKL, despite his very good performance last Saturday. Korenyuk had a double-double by scoring 20 points and getting 10 rebounds in 32 minutes. But the bottom-ranked Siauliai was edged 82-81 on their home court in Siauliai by the much higher-ranked (#3) Lietuvos rytas. Korenyuk's stats this year are: 13.2ppg and 5.9rpg in nine games. He is a former U20 international player as three years ago he still played for the Ukrainian national team.

   #11. Former international power forward Vitaliy Kovalenko (204-84, currently plays in Poland) faced previously mentioned Denis Ikovlev in the Polish PLK last game. Kovalenko contributed to a MKS Dabrowa Gornicza's victory against the tenth-ranked PGE Turow 73-63. He recorded 9 points, 7 rebounds and 2 blocks. Kovalenko's total stats this season are: 9.7ppg and 4.1rpg. He used to play for the Ukrainian national team nine years ago.

   #12. International guard Oleksandr Lypovyy (200-91, currently plays in Greece) couldn't help Aiolos Trikallon in their game against AEK Athens in the Greek A1, despite his very good performance in Saturday night's game. Lypovyy scored 14 points in 25 minutes. But his team lost 82-87. This year Lypovyy's total stats are: 9.9ppg, 3.6rpg and 1.7apg in 17 games. He is also in the roster of the Ukrainian national team.

   #13. Former University international power forward Andriy Malysh (203-83, agency: Stanislav Ryzhov, currently plays in Belarus) is a teammate of previously mentioned Maksym Kozlovets. But that was another game of his team in Belarusian Premier League which we would like to mention. Malysh helped COR-Borisfen win their game against the eighth-ranked Brest crushing them 88-54. He recorded a double-double by scoring 10 points and getting the same number of rebounds. Malysh averaged so far 10.9ppg, 7.2rpg and 2.6apg. He used to play for the Ukrainian university national team fourteen years ago.

   #14. Former international power forward Andriy Agafonov (208-86, agency: AproK Sports Group, currently plays in Lithuania) helped P.Zvaigzdes edge one of league's weakest teams Nevezis 89-88 in the Lithuanian LKL last Saturday. Agafonov scored 11 points in only a mere 12 minutes. Agafonov averaged so far 12.1ppg, 5.3rpg, 1.3apg and 1.2bpg in 23 games. He used to play for the Ukrainian national team back in 2012.

   #15. Former University international point guard Oleksandr Dolenko (191-90, currently plays in Ireland) helped Swords Thunder win their game against one of league's weakest teams KUBS crushing them 100-61 in the Irish Super League on Saturday night. Dolenko was the top player that evening. He scored 24 points, had 8 boards, dished 8 assists and stole 4 balls. Dolenko has averaged so far 7.6ppg, 2.6rpg, 2.1apg and 2.1spg. He used to play for the Ukrainian university national team four years ago.


The list of other players, who all have Ukrainian passport but never been selected to any of Ukrainian national teams:

   #1. Ivan Kaliayev (200-F-87, currently plays in Belarus) was the major contributor in Grodno-93's victory against the closely-ranked Vitebsk (15-11) crushing them 90-69 in the Belarusian Premier League on Saturday night. Kaliayev recorded 18 points and added 4 passes. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. BK Grodno-93 (24-2) is placed first in the Premier League. Kaliayev's total stats this season are: 9.9ppg, 4.3rpg, 3.4apg and 1.5spg.

   #2. Igor Krivtsov (201-F-86, currently plays in Georgia) could not help Batumi (6-11) in their last game. Despite Krivtsov's very good performance Batumi was badly defeated 85-68 on the road by the higher-ranked (#4) Cactus Tbilisi. He was the top scorer with 24 points. Krivtsov also added 6 rebounds and made 2 blocks in 34 minutes. It was Batumi's sixth consecutive loss in a row. There are only four games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. Krivtsov averaged so far 10.5ppg, 6.1rpg, 1.3apg and 1.1bpg in 15 games he played so far.

   #3. Bogdan Bliznyuk (198-F-95, currently plays college basketball in the States) led E.Washington to a victory against the University of Idaho (8-5) 77-67 in the NCAA in Friday night's game. He recorded a double-double by scoring 25 points and getting 13 rebounds. Bliznyuk also added 4 assists. The Eastern Washington University has a solid 9-4 conference record this season. There are only four games left until the end of the NCAA Regular Season. So now every game is very crucial. Bliznyuk has individually a very good season with high stats. He averages: 19.4ppg, 6.0rpg, 4.0apg and 1.2spg.

   #4. Volodymyr Iegorov (201-F, currently plays in Canada) was not able to help the Thompson Rivers University (8-12) in their last game. Despite Iegorov's very good performance the Thompson Rivers University (#3) lost 74-79 in Regina, SK to the Cougars. He had a double-double by scoring 16 points and getting 12 rebounds in 39 minutes. It was Thompson Rivers University's fourth consecutive loss in a row. The Regular Season already ended. Iegorov has very impressive stats this year: 18.3ppg, 9.1rpg, 3.5apg, 1.3bpg and 1.1spg in 20 games.

   #5. Artem Shelukha (198-F-87, currently plays in Germany) was not able to secure a victory for AstroStars (11-9) in their game against Artland Dragons (14-6) in the German ProB (third division). He recorded 7 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 26 minutes. The fifth-placed AstroStars (11-9) lost 68-77 in Quakenbrueck to the second-ranked Artland Dragons in the North group. It was AstroStars' third consecutive loss in a row. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be important. Shelukha has averaged so far 3.7ppg and 1.8rpg in 13 games. He has a dual citizenship: Ukrainian and German.

   #6. Oleksander Kuschev (201-C-90, currently plays in Italy) contributed to Venafro's victory against the 12th-ranked Isernia 74-70 in the Italian Serie B (third division) last Sunday. Kuschev scored 6 points and added 3 passes in 29 minutes. Kuschev has averaged so far 9.9ppg and 7.5rpg in 17 games. He is another player who holds two passports: Ukrainian and Italian. Despite Kuschev's Ukrainian nationality, he previously played for the Italian U18 national team and is probably not eligible to play for the Ukrainian team.

   #7. Aleksander Szczerbatiuk (182-PG-96, currently plays in Poland) couldn't help OKK Sokol Ostrow Mazowiecka (9-14) in their last game on Saturday. Despite Szczerbatiuk's good performance the tenth-placed OKK Sokol Ostrow Mazowiecka was defeated 87-83 in Bialystok by the higher-ranked Zubry (#7) in the Group B. He scored 14 points and added 3 assists. Szczerbatiuk averaged so far 14.2ppg, 4.0rpg, 3.7apg and 2.1spg.

American Brandon Fields (193-G-88) had a great game in the last round for league's leader Budivelnyk and that's him to receive a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 34. The 28-year old guard got a double-double of 21 points and ten assists, while his team outclassed Mykolaiv (#7, 11-16) with 38-point margin 118-80. 27-year old forward Maxim Nikitin (201-F-89) had a very impressive game in the last round for Niko-Basket and receives a Eurobasket.com Higher League Player of the Week award for round 5 (Second Stage). He had a double-double of 21 points and 11 rebounds, while his team lost the game against Politekhn.Lvov (#5, 9-7) 86-98. Niko-Basket moved-up to the 8th position in Ukrainian Higher League. The Regular Season in Superleague just ended. Host teams show no mercy winning all games. Leader Budivelnyk delivered the twenty fifth victory on Saturday night. This time they crushed 7th ranked Mykolaiv (11-16) 118-80 in Kyiv. The game was mostly controlled by Budivelnyk. Mykolaiv managed to win second period 22-18.
