Higher League Round 1 (Second Stage): SumDU hands first loss to Ternopil-TNEU - Mar 13, 2017

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Ternopil-TNEU (9-1) in Sumy on Friday night. Visitors were defeated by SumDU (4-6) 87-81. The hosts trailed by 1 point at the halftime before their 24-13 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to win the game. SumDU forced 20 Ternopil-TNEU turnovers. It was a great shooting night for SumDU especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.4 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of Vitaliy Ignatchenko (188-91) who helped to win the game recording 27 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. Forward Sergei Glinchak (-89) contributed with 22 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. SumDU's coach Yaroslav Kovalov used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Vladislav Ungurian answered with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 16 rebounds for Ternopil-TNEU. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
Another interesting game for Politekhn.Lvov (8-6) which played in Mariupol against Azovmash (7-7). Politekhn.Lvov had an easy win 95-76. Forward Dmytro Khodov (203-87) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 assists for the winners and Roman Novikov chipped in 24 points. At the losing side guard Kirilo Zuev (193-93) responded with 18 points and 9 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Politekhn.Lvov will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Azovmash will play again at home against Politekhn.Lvov (#5) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Kyrylo Marchenko came up with 17 points for Khimik-2 in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players saving starting five for next games. Krivbas-2 will again meet at home Khimik-2 (#4) in the next round. Khimik-2 will have a break next round.

Krivbas-2 - Khimik-2 94-77

An interesting game for Krivbas-2 (10-4) which hosted in Kryvyi Rih Khimik-2 (8-6). Krivbas-2 had an easy win 94-77. The hosts trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 5-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 94-77. Krivbas-2 forced 19 Khimik-2 turnovers and outrebounded them 45-24 including a 19-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists comparing to just 15 passes made by Khimik-2's players. Guard Evgeni Sergeychik (185-94) nailed 21 points and 6 assists for the winning side and guard Dmitro Vasilenko (191-97) accounted for 15 points and 8 assists. Forward Kyrylo Marchenko (191-97) came up with 17 points and guard Olexiy Solovyov (187-97) added 18 points respectively for Khimik-2 in the defeat. Five Krivbas-2 and four Khimik-2 players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players saving starting five for next games. Krivbas-2 will again meet at home Khimik-2 (#4) in the next round. Khimik-2 will have a break next round.

Another interesting game for Politekhn.Lvov (8-6) which played in Mariupol against Azovmash (7-7). Politekhn.Lvov had an easy win 95-76. The game without a history. Politekhn.Lvov led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They shot 60.3 percent from the field. Politekhn.Lvov forced 21 Azovmash turnovers. They shot the lights out from three nailing 13 long-distance shots on high 54.2 percentage. Politekhn.Lvov players were unselfish on offense dishing 30 assists. Forward Dmytro Khodov (203-87) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 assists for the winners and center Roman Novikov (204-92, agency: AproK Sports Group) chipped in 24 points.
