Higher League round 5 caused change at the leadership position. Fifth defeat of league's leader Zolotoi Vek (11-5) against fourth ranked Khimik-2 (10-6) 91-85 was the most important game of the last round. Zolotoi Vek trailed by 13 points after 3 quarters before a 26-19 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 85-91 at the end of the game. Forward Artem Kovalov (202-97, agency: Stanislav Ryzhov) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 13 rebounds. point guard Vadym Kozak (182-99) contributed with 22 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Power forward Andriy Kulish (205-92) answered with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 16 rebounds for Zolotoi Vek. Khimik-2 maintains fourth place with 10-6 record. Zolotoi Vek at the other side dropped to the second position with five games lost. They share it with Hoverla. They were replaced at the leadership position by Krivbas-2. Zolotoi Vek will play next round against league's leader Krivbas-2 trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Khimik-2 will try to continue on its current victory against seventh ranked Niko-Basket in Mykolaiv.
Another interesting game for Niko-Basket (2-13) which played in Lviv against 5th ranked Politekhn.Lvov (8-7). Eighth ranked Niko-Basket had an easy win 85-71. Mihaylo Gorobchenko stepped up and scored 18 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists for the winners and Maksym Ozhegov chipped in 20 points and 6 rebounds. Forward Maksym Tiutiunyk (190-92) responded with 20 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 steals. Politekhn.Lvov's coach Yaroslav Zubrytskyy rotated ten players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Niko-Basket moved-up to seventh place. Politekhn.Lvov at the other side keeps the fifth position with seven games lost. Niko-Basket will play against higher ranked Khimik-2 (#4) in Yuzhny in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Politekhn.Lvov will have a break next round.
The game in Rovno was also quite interesting. Second ranked Krivbas-2 (12-4) played at the court of 7th ranked BC-93 Pulsar (2-14). Krivbas-2 defeated BC-93 Pulsar 70-60 on Sunday. Sergey Startsev nailed 17 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists for the winning side. Sergei Markov came up with 21 points and 5 steals for BC-93 Pulsar in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Krivbas-2 have an impressive series of eight victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader. BC-93 Pulsar lost fifth consecutive game. Newly promoted team dropped to the eighth place with 14 games lost. Krivbas-2 will meet Zolotoi Vek (#3) in the next round, which may be the game of the day. BC-93 Pulsar will play against Azovmash (#6) in Mariupol and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
The game between third ranked Hoverla (11-5) and 6th ranked Azovmash (7-9) in Frankivsk ended with biggest points difference. Hoverla outscored guests from Mariupol 93-53. The best player for the winners was Roman Gumeniuk who had a double-double by scoring 10 points and 14 rebounds. Azovmash's coach Sergei Zavalin gave up on the game allowing to play twelve players seeing no chance for a win. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Hoverla. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Zolotoi Vek. Azovmash at the other side keeps the sixth position with nine games lost. Hoverla's next round opponent will be league's leader Krivbas-2 in Kryvyi Rih and it will be for sure the game of the week. Azovmash will play at home against BC-93 Pulsar (#8) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

There were no big surprises in other games of round 5: Niko-Basket was beaten by Politekhn.Lvov on the road 98-86. Ternopil-TNEU won against Kremen-2 on its own court 85-75. Dnipro-2 managed to outperform Ch.Mavpy 2 in Dnepropetrovsk 76-62.
The most impressive performance of 5th round was 24 points and 8 rebounds by Dmytro Khodov of Politekhn.Lvov.

Politekhn.Lvov - Niko-Basket 98-86

No shocking result in a game when fifth ranked Politekhn.Lvov (8-7) beat 8th ranked Niko-Basket (2-13) in Lviv 98-86. The game was mostly controlled by Politekhn.Lvov. Niko-Basket was better in fourth quarter 23-22. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Politekhn.Lvov made 21-of-23 charity shots (91.3 percent) during the game. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 27 assists. The best player for the winners was point guard Andriy Kobets (192-93, agency: AproK Sports Group) who scored 26 points and 9 assists. But then Dnipro-2 had a 16-10 second period charge getting the lead and Ch.Mavpy 2 was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 62-76. They outrebounded Ch.Mavpy 2 49-24 including a 35-20 advantage in defensive rebounds.
