Worthing Thunder Basketball announced that experienced Dave Titmuss will take over the team as a Head Coach for season 2009/10. Worthing ended 08/09 regular season as No.11 staying far below the line for the Playoffs. That was the main reason why they decided to change the system, and the most important problem is resolved now. Coach Dave Titmuss is coming to Worthing from Reading Rockets, where he spent almost the entire decade. The team competed in EBL all these years, except from 2001-2003. Last season the Rockets had perfect 36-0 record and they claimed all four trophies available to them in EBL Division 1. Of course Titmuss was named 'Eurobasket.com All-British EBL Division One Coach of the Year'. In 2008 they were Division 1 Finalist and EBL Trophy winners. They defended EBL Trophy this year also. Reading was EBL champion last season, as well as in 2006. Coach Titmuss is under no illusions about the role he is undertaking, but is confident that he can help the team progress: 'It's going to be tough. But if our guys can excel at playing together at both ends of the floor, if they commit to doing what it takes to win, then we'll have a team that supporters and everyone associated with Thunder will appreciate and be proud of.' The first game of the next season for Worthing Thunder's is scheduled for September 19. That will be a part of 'Thunder Cup'.

Even though he stated that he will gladly accept the invitation from Great Britain to represent them at European Championship in Poland, it seems that Luol Deng (201-F-85, agency: Arik Krayn Services, college: Duke) will miss because of injury. Chicago Bulls forward, has sustained the leg injury, and the recovery has been going slower than expected. Deng sustained the injury in the middle of NBA season and he did not return again. He was doing the rehab, but he is currently behind the timetable set for recovery. So it seems that Deng will be forced to take the whole summer off in order to fully recover, which means he will not be able to help Great Britain. This will certainly decrease Britain's chance to qualify through groups as the squad counted heavily on Deng. The hope remains, that Britain's other star, Ben Gordon (188-G-83, college: Connecticut) will be able to take participation at Eurobasket. Britain has been drawn in a tough Group C along with Spain, Serbia and Slovenia. Luol Deng was originally born in Sudan but has grown up in London so he holds British citizenship. He played at Duke University for renowned Coach Mike Kryzevski . In 2004 he led Duke to NCAA Final Four after averaging 15.1 points and 6.9 rebounds in 37 games. Deng was drafted by Chicago Bulls as 7th pick in 2004 NBA Draft. With Bulls he quickly became important player. 2006 was his best season when Deng played in 82 games averaging 18.8 points, 7.1 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game. Chicago made it to Playoffs and Deng was even better upping his average to 22.2 points and 8.7 rebounds in 10 playoff games. This season Deng missed out most of Chicagos games due to the injury. He played fro Great Britain National Team helping them qualify for European Championships. In 4 games Deng posted averages of 22.8 points, 6.3 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game.

The American point guard joins from the Guildford Heat where he won the BBL Trophy and BBL Playoff Championship as the teams leader in 2008. This past season he averaged 16 points 4 assists and 4 rebounds whilst shooting 42% from the three point line.
Harrison was voted MVP of the Heats BBL Trophy win and brings a veteran leadership to the Lions. A graduate of Connecticut University the affable guard also played for the Teeside Mohawks and Reading Rockets before breaking into the BBL.
Lions Head Coach Vince Macaulay commented, I am delighted to be able to acquire EJ, he brings a bit of size to the point guard position but can also play the 2 spot which will allow us to find more playing time for Eddie Morrison who is a real prospect at guard for the long term future.
Harrison led the Heat in steals as well as assists last season and looks a good fit for the Lions system. He also played for the Heat in their European campaign in the ULEB cup in 2008 against some of the top teams in Europe; at this level of competition he averaged 15 points per outing and 4 assists. Macaulay continued, EJ is a great closer, in all the battles we have had with the Heat in the past two season he has been instrumental in closing the games out for his side, I look forward to seeing him do that in a Lions vest.
The Lions look to announce more signings shortly as negotiations continue with the quartet of Mike New, Yorick Williams Dru Spinks and Robert Youngblood. The Bletchley based outfit will open the 2009/10 season at the Bletchley Leisure Centre before moving to their new home around Christmas time. Fixtures are due out towards the end of June.
