The Glasgow Rocks have completed the signing of 6ft7 US/German, Michael Crowell (201-F-85, college: Idaho) The athletic forward will bring added depth to player/coach, Sterling Davis' side as he looks to build some winning momentum going into the New Year.
'Michael will give us a little more depth offensively especially with his ability to knock down the three point shot in bunches. He's got a good size to him especially for his position which is always a plus for any coach because it causes such huge matchup problems when time to defend it, but also works to our advantage defensively to be able to have a bigger defender on the perimeter.'
Crowell, a graduate of Division 1 Idaho University has experience playing in Europe, both in Spain and, more recently, Germany where he spent last season with Weissenhorn.
'He's got some good experience professionally with stints in Spain and Germany, two high calibre places to play basketball within Europe, with most of his success happening in the latter. I think he will come in fresh, and motivated to prove to himself and others what type of player he can be.'
Crowell flies into Glasgow on Monday to begin training ahead of his likely Rocks debut on Sunday 29th November when the Rocks face the Worcester Wolves at Kelvin Hall. With player/coach Sterling Davis serving a one match ban, Crowell will be looking to prove himself as a serious contender in Davis' starting five.
'It's hard to believe that a guy with his talent is still out there and has been throughout the course of the summer. I think he will definitely be an asset to what we are trying to accomplish here.'

After a tough game against the in-form Worcester Wolves on Saturday evening, the Cheshire Jets face the Worthing Thunder at home, as the Thunder also come into the game off the back of a challenging encounter against PAWS London Capital, who will be looking to get back to winning ways after a 102-54 mauling at Marshall MK Lions.

As with many fixtures, although the history books would predict that the Jets will have this one; it is well and truly unpredictable. Paul Smith , the Head Coach of the Jets, identified high scoring import Reggie Bratton as the main potential threat for the Thunder. He also emphasised the fact that some of the Thunders injured players will be returning action, as a key factor in the outcome of the game: The Thunder are starting to get some of their injured players back, and they are an all round great hustling team he said: (Reggie) Bratton can put up some amazing numbers so it will be very tough.
Thunder supremo Dave Titmuss urged his side to step up a gear on the perimeter, as well as establishing a more powerful inside presence. He explained: I think, fully fit, we match-up well against both London and Cheshire but well need improved perimeter play on Saturday and a greater inside presence on Sunday, if we are to win either game.
Sundays second game is between the Guildford Heat and Airwaves Plymouth Raiders, and Heat player-coach Chad McKnight warned his side and fans to watch out for big pair Matthew Hilleary and Florentino Valencia: I think Plymouth are going to be a good team like always, they always play tough and scrappy. Matthew Hilleary is averaging seventeen points a game so we will have to look to slow him down. Also Florentino Valencia has been playing well for them so we need to do a job on him as well he added: To win against the Raiders we will have to play tough defense and control the game on offense.
Evans Hails Harrison Masterclass - Nov 19, 2009 (by Andy Webb)
Ahead of his sides game against the Cheshire Jets on Saturday, Worcester Wolves boss Chuck Evans has expressed his feelings of awe and wonder at the performance of Marshall MK Lions Point Guard Elmer J. Harrison (186-G-76, college: Connecticut), who scored 25 points for his team as the Wolves defeated them 92-91 last weekend, thanks to a clutch play from Evaldas Zabas. Evans said: As a former point guard, to watch Elmer J. Harrison, is like watching a conductor at the New York Symphony Orchestra. A former Euroleague star as a playmaker, he also claimed that the difference between his sides play in the Newcastle defeat last weekend compared to the win over the Lions the following evening, was their focus. He added: The main difference in beating the Lions compared to losing to the Eagles was our focus. We are young and not accustomed to winning at a high level. In order to do this we must be focused in for the entire forty minutes, and we are not there yet. We watched the video from Friday's game on Saturday and it helped us to make the necessary adjustments.
The weekend is tipped off by a clash between the Newcastle Eagles and the Airwaves Plymouth Raiders at the Metro Radio Arena. Although the form guide would heavily favour the Eagles, who currently sit in third place in the BBL Championship Table, the Raiders did beat the Eagles 96-95 in overtime earlier in the season.
This gives Newcastles play caller Fabulous Flournoy cause for concern, although he stressed that the sides match up well against each other. He commented: 'We should match up well with Plymouth, particularly after they unfortunately lost Eric Flato. We both have very quick point guards and guys who can finish inside. Most importantly, we are also both down to six senior players.
Friday also sees a mouth-watering BBL Cup Quarter Final clash between Sheffield Sharks and the Everton Tigers, as the winners of the tie will go on to face the Jelson Homes DMU Leicester Riders in a two-leg semi final. The Sharks will get their taste of the Riders side anyway this weekend, for the second time this season, as they make the journey to the East Midlands on Saturday evening.
Riders play caller and former Birmingham Bullets point guard, Rob Paternostro, says that despite his side beating the Sharks convincingly last time they visited Leicester, they will have their work cut out on Saturday evening: Any time the first placed team comes into your building, its cause for excitement. Sheffield has had a great start to their season winning both at home and on the road he said.
To cap off Saturdays round of matches, the Essex Pirates take on the Marshall MK Lions at home, as they look for their first victory over the leagues form team, and the Worthing Thunder host PAWS London Capital.
