Spain claimed a narrow win over Great Britain in the test game in Valladolid. Pau Gasol (214-F/C-80) and Marc Gasol (212-C-85, agency: Interperformances) scored 16 points each to pace the winners.
Spain jumped to an early lead. The hosts built a 21:15 advantage ten minutes into the game. The teams traded baskets throughout the second quarter. Spain maintained the lead posting a 38:32 halftime buffer. Great Britain added aggression and cut the deficit to 4 points before the fourth quarter 55:59. Spain cleared off to a 7-point lead in the final term 77:70 but the visitors followed with four points in a row to narrow the distance. Pau Gasol then hit a free throw and sealed the victory for Spain. Serge Ibaka accounted for 13 points for the hosts. Joel Freeland (208-F-87) answered with 15 points for Great Britain. Michael Lenzly (189-G-81, college: Wofford) netted 13 points and grabbed 7 rebounds in the loss.
