Chavis
Holmes
Surrey Heat coach, Creon Raftopoulos has announced his first new player for the 2012/2013 basketball season. The 6ft 4in US combo guard, Chavis Holmes (193-G-86, college: VMI) takes the third and final overseas player spot and joins US players, Martelle McLemore and Frank Holmes on the BBL team.

26 year-old Chavis Holmes (193-G-86, college: VMI) has had an impressive start to his career. He started off at Virginia Military Institute (NCAA 1) with his twin brother Travis. In his sophomore season Holmes led the Big South Conference in three pointers made, and ranked 10th in the nation, while shooting 39% from three-point range. Holmes' defensive game was also strong. He recorded 2.8 steals a game, making him 4th in the nation.

Holmes improved on his sophomore season in 2007-08 and was rewarded with a spot on the Second Team All-Big South Conference. In the 2008-09 season Holmes led the nation in steals. As a result, he earned First Team All-Big South Conference honors and a spot in the Richmond Times-Dispatch All-State Team. In 2009 the Holmes brothers became the NCAA's all time leading scoring twins.

Chavis Holmes (193-G-86, college: VMI) has since played for Hermosilio (CIBACOPA) in Mexico, Clavijo in Spain and Haukar in Iceland, where he gained a reputation as an athletic and versatile scoring guard, able to score in multiple ways.

Creon Raftopoulos, head coach for Surrey Heat commented, "I am really excited to have signed a player of Chavis' skill level for this season. Chavis' versatility at the point guard and shooting guard position, along with his size, will give him no problems adjusting to the style of play in the BBL. He comes here after a great College career and with two years of professional experience."

Chavis Holmes (193-G-86, college: VMI) said, "I'm thankful for this opportunity and I look forward to playing my part and helping this team accomplish GREAT things."

WBBL Round Up Sat 25 March - 13 hours ago
The history keeps on happening in the WBBL and it proved to be a landmark and dramatic Saturday as Caledonia Pride came back from a double-digit deficit to stun Westfield Health Sheffield Hatters 79-78 and take a first ever home floor victory. Natalie Bastian sunk the crucial free-throws at the death and also top-scored, but it was a pair of go-ahead triples from Scottish guard Hannah Robb heading into crunch time which made the difference. There was then drama at the unveiling of the...   [read more]
