Chapman Raring To Go - Sep 21, 2012

Joe Chapman
Finishing his comeback season with five trophies obviously wasn't enough for Newcastle Eagles' guard Joe Chapman (193-G-84, agency: I.D.S. Law, college: Marquette).

The 28-year-old added the Molten Player-of-the-Year trophy to the clean sweep of BBL silverware Eagles won last year, but he has shed 15lbs in the summer and is ready for an improved season.

"I had a great summer" said. "I trained a lot, lost some weight and got my body how I wanted it to be. I'm moving a lot better now, and I'm back to how I was before the injury. I'm definitely lighter on my feet, and looking forward to the new season."

Considering that Chapman averaged 20.2 points, 3.8 assists and 3.6 rebounds per game last season, having missed a large chunk of the previous campaign with an Achilles injury, the thought of an improved MVP will probably send a few shivers down the spine of other BBL players.

The Chicago born player is clearly excited about the new look Eagles as they prepare to defend the four trophies they won last season: "We've got some new faces and that makes for a fresh start. The new guys are good, and Anthony Martin helps us a lot. Losing Andy [Thomson] was tough as we thought he'd be here for another season, but he got an offer he couldn't pass up."

Eagles open their BBL season Friday when Glasgow Rocks are the visitors to Sport Central (7.30pm) before Chapman and his team travel to Crystal Palace to face the new London Lions (5pm).

Interview with Orlan Jackman - 1 day ago

Orlan Jackman (201-F-88, college: Oklahoma City) former player of Worcester Wolves (BBL) gave an interview: Why you decided to be a pro player. I decided to become a pro player because it was the next step in my progression as a player, I had played at the College level then after that it was just natural progression. There are many players without a job fighting for the same spots, how hard is to wait for your ideal offer and not take the first that comes up considering that the next...   [read more]
