BBL Basketball Returns To Manchester - Sep 24, 2012

BBL basketball returned to Manchester on Friday evening as a capacity crowd at Wright Robinson College saw the home-town Giants win 85-84 against London Lions.

"It was probably little bit tenser that I would have liked, but we're absolutely ecstatic with the win" said coach Jeff Jones.

"The venue was great and people worked really hard to get it ready. The place was full, it was a great atmosphere and we're delighted to be back."

Jones knows that there's a lot of hard work to do as the new Giants continue their debut BBL season: "As a group we've only had two practice sessions, with Devan [Bailey] and Mo [Williams] coming in this week, so from that point of view I'm exceptionally pleased. There's a lot to build on, we had a full house and I guess it's one way to keep people interested with close games. I'm not sure it's good for my heart, though!

"JJames Jones (193-G/F-83, college: Whitworth) played really well in the first half, and although I wouldn't say he carried us, he scored well when others struggled. Down the stretch, Devon, Mo, Steff [Gill] and [David] Watts all did a great job. I think different people will step up on different nights, which is good."

The Giants return to Wright Robinson College on Friday evening when One Health Sharks Sheffield are the visitors and they are also in action on Saturday evening when they travel to Worcester Wolves where Callum Jones and Watts will face their former club.

BBL All-Star Five - Week 25 - 10 hours ago
With a packed weekend of BBL action, our line-up has barely had as much competition for a starting berth - here's who survived the cut. Brandon Clark (Leicester Riders) After slipping up against Wolves last Friday, the Riders' guard helped his team return to winning ways with a brilliant effort against Glasgow Rocks. Clark was the main architect of the victory with a stellar 9 of 11 from the field which returned 23 points. He also added six assists and three rebounds for good measure....   [read more]
