He admits it's been a baptism of fire, but Cheshire Jets' new player-coach James Hamilton (201-F-72, college: Iowa St.) can't wait to get going this weekend.

After a summer that saw the Jets facing closure after 21 years in the BBL, former hero Hamilton was given the task of building a team in the space of a fortnight.

"It's been a nightmare and a blessing" admitted the 40-year-old. "From the start, I really only had three days to put a team together, otherwise the guys would not have arrived on time for the first game, mainly because of the time it takes process work permits and visas. So, I spent a lot of hours on the phone to my contacts in the States trying to get some players. And unbelievably we managed to do it."

Hamilton was a member of the legendary 2002 Jets team that completed a clean sweep of BBL honours, and he's clearly raring to go: "It's great to be back involved in basketball. Currently, everything is still a whirlwind and we are doing our best to prepare for the season. People should understand that this is a new project, and we are basically starting from scratch, it's going to be a very long and difficult journey this year, but we should be proud that we have saved the organization from collapse, as it would have been very sad to see a franchise with so much history go under.

"I have always wanted to coach. Having been a professional for nearly 20 years, I have seen it all, and done it all. I believe I have the drive and vision to get the Jets back to where we should be."

The new-look Jets open their season on Saturday evening when they travel to Loughborough University to face Jelson Homes DMU Leicester Riders.

The BBL Trophy Final is the goal. The Emirates Arena is the destination. And four teams are locked in a battle this weekend to get there. Plymouth Raiders hold the advantage over Worcester Wolves as they take an 18-point lead into tonight's second leg, which can be seen live on BBC Sport. The Wolves need to win the leg by 19 points to advance to the final with the Raiders looking to end a five-year wait since their last final in 2012. From Benfield Schoolboy attending a Hoops for Health session to Assistant Coach to the Esh Group Eagles Newcastle Senior Team and England Under 18's Assistant Coach too, quite a journey for Coach Ian Macleod . A young man that shows that The Newcastle Eagles Basketball Club is not all about success on the court and allowing young ballers to follow their dreams but also where careers can be carved out in other ways if the attitude and work ethic are right. Ian Macleod is a shining exampl...   [read more]

Itzehoe Eagles Announce Deji Adekunle For Playoff Push - 23 hours ago
The Itzehoe Eagles have announced the signing of big man Deji Adekunle (209-F/C-92, college: Kaiser). The 208cm center signed with the Eagles prior to the German Pro B transfer deadline in early January while still recovering from an injury. Adekunle comes from the Plymouth Raiders in the UK BBL, where he was let go in December after sustaining what was thought to be a serious groin injury. He has since made a timely recovery and will return to action in near future as Itzehoe prepares...   [read more]
