Friday night's action in the BBL Championship saw the Newcastle Eagles maintain their 100% start to the season, while the London Lions picked up their first victory of the campaign to move themselves off the foot of the table.

The Eagles were made to work hard by the Manchester Giants but came away from Wright Robinson College with an 82-91 victory.

An impressive second quarter performance from the Eagles helped the visitors into an early advantage as they led 35-50 at the half, but the Giants worked hard in the second half to get themselves right back into the contest and provide a little bit of a scare on the current BBL Champions.

A combination of Joe Chapman (193-G-84, agency: I.D.S. Law, college: Marquette) and Charles Smith led the scoring for the Eagles with 20 points a-piece and meant the Eagles held onto top spot in the early weeks of the season.

In the other game of the night, the Lions secured their first victory of the season with a 95-91 victory over the Surrey Heat at Crystal Palace National Sports Centre.

An impressive 27 point haul from Tayo Ogedengbe (198-F-87) was the stand-out performance for the home side, while Chavis Holmes bagged 24 points for the visitors in the defeat.

The Lions led for the vast majority of the game, but the game remained close throughout with both sides vying for the victory, the home side looking for their first and the visitors looking to maintain their strong start to the season, but it was the Lions who remained cool down the stretch and a pair of free-throws from Nuno Pedroso with seven seconds remaining was enough to hand the Lions the all-important victory.
