Women's National Cup preview: Top teams enter the fray - Oct 28, 2012

The tie of the second round of the Women's National Cup sees holders Sheffield Hatters travel to fellow Division 1 team Leeds Carnegie. Unsurprisingly, given theat Carnegie finished 2-19 last season, Hatters won all three league match-ups between the sides last season and topped 100 points each time.

The other two all-Division 1 clashes see Newham Stars facing Barking Abbey and Loughborough Students Riders hosting Manchester Mystics.

Riders and Mystics met twice last season when both teams were in Division 2. Mystics won the Trophy final against Riders 66-60, but Loughborough gianed their revenge by knocking Mystics out of the Division 2 Playoffs at the semi final stage with a 77-76 overtime victory.

There will be a minimum of one Division 2 team in the quarter final line-up as Reading Rockets and Northamptonshire Titans clash at Rivermead for a chance at a quarter final spot against Leeds or Sheffield.

With the Women's season only just beginning the top division teams who will have to take extra care to avoid an upset are Cardiff Archers and Sevenoaks Suns, who host Bristol Storm and Solent Suns respectively.

WBBL Weekend Wrap with Hannah Shaw - 16 hours ago

The two-time defending champions were pushed all the way by Cardiff Met Archers before prevailing for a 73-78 success on the road. Stef Collins had 26 points, 10 rebounds and six assists for the home side, but they fell short as Ashley Harris returned to action in style with 31 points and 12 boards. "It feels great to get that first win of the season under...   [read more]

WBBL Round Up Saturday 14 October - 2 days ago
Saturday was a good day for reigning champions in the WBBL, with wins for Nottingham Wildcats (Championship), Sevenoaks Suns (Play-offs) and Manchester Mystics (Cup). Wildcats recorded their first win of the new campaign thanks to a huge double-double from Ashley Harris, including 16 points in a crucial third quarter spell that saw them recover from a first half deficit at Cardiff Met Archers.
