Women's National Cup preview: Top teams enter the fray - Oct 28, 2012

The tie of the second round of the Women's National Cup sees holders Sheffield Hatters travel to fellow Division 1 team Leeds Carnegie. Unsurprisingly, given theat Carnegie finished 2-19 last season, Hatters won all three league match-ups between the sides last season and topped 100 points each time.

The other two all-Division 1 clashes see Newham Stars facing Barking Abbey and Loughborough Students Riders hosting Manchester Mystics.

Riders and Mystics met twice last season when both teams were in Division 2. Mystics won the Trophy final against Riders 66-60, but Loughborough gianed their revenge by knocking Mystics out of the Division 2 Playoffs at the semi final stage with a 77-76 overtime victory.

There will be a minimum of one Division 2 team in the quarter final line-up as Reading Rockets and Northamptonshire Titans clash at Rivermead for a chance at a quarter final spot against Leeds or Sheffield.

With the Women's season only just beginning the top division teams who will have to take extra care to avoid an upset are Cardiff Archers and Sevenoaks Suns, who host Bristol Storm and Solent Suns respectively.

Molten WBBL All-Defensive Team Of The Year 2016-17 - 2 hours ago
The WBBL clubs/coaches have cast their votes for the WBBL All-Defensive Team of the Year for 2016-17 and it is as follows: Nicolette Fong Lyew Quee (Team Northumbria) The livewire guard has taken her game to new levels in recent seasons and not only at the offensive end of the floor. Her quickness and basketball IQ have made her a real power defensively for Team Northumbria as she leads her team in steals. Rheanne Bailey(174-G/F-92) (Manchester Mystics) Showing leadership all over the c...   [read more]

The WBBL Play-Off Quarter-Finals tip off this weekend and if Team Northumbria want to defend the coveted silverware they won at The 02 in London last year, they will have to do it the hard way. The north-east side have had an injury ravaged campaign so far and it shows no sign of relenting as they face the prospect of a trip to the in-form Sevenoaks Suns on Monday. "We are excited about this Play-Off game, but we are still struggling with injures,' revealed head coach, Chris Bunten. 'H...   [read more]

Nikitinaite crowned Molten WBBL Young Player of the Year - 1 day ago
Rising star Gabriele Nikitinaite(178-SG-98) has been voted the Molten WBBL Young Player of the Year for 2016-17 after posting a brilliant season with Sevenoaks Suns. In polling by WBBL clubs/coaches, they recognised it's been a magnificent year for the Great Britain youth star, whose upturn in form and influence helped Suns to deliver their first-ever piece of WBBL silverware after they landed the WBBL Trophy last month. Sevenoaks also secured their highest ever placing in the WBBL Cham...   [read more]
