Sunday's match-ups in the BBL Championship threw up some big results for the teams involved as the Jelson Homes DMU Leicester Riders suffered their first defeat of the season at the hands of the Surrey Heat, while the UCP Marjon Plymouth Raiders and Glasgow Rocks picked up victories to keep themselves in the hunt for honours.

The Heat were made to work hard down the stretch but they overcame a resiliant Riders outfit who were looking to maintain their 100% start to the season, but fell just short as the home side held on for an 81-74 victory at Surrey Sports Park. Frank Holmes (206-F-84, college: UAB) was the star man in the contest as he netted 22 points for the Heat in the victory.

With the Riders leading 57-61 heading into the final quarter, the home side began strongly and a Holmes basket sparked a 9-1 tear midway through the final quarter to take the lead at 75-68. The Riders determination was shown as they tried desperately to get themselves back into the contest, but they could get no closer than five points at 79-74, but the Heat held on for the all-important victory.

The Rocks had to come-from-behind in their game against the London Lions, but they eventually picked up an 87-73 victory at the Emirates Arena on Sunday afternoon.

Donald Robinson (193-F, college: W.Virginia Tech) bagged 18 points in the victory for the Rocks, but it was Adrian Sturt who led all scorers as he netted 22 points for the Lions in their defeat.

A quick start to the final quarter saw the home side rattle off a 16-5 beginning to the period to take the score out to 76-66 and that was enough to see off a resiliant Lions outfit as they were unable to overcome the deficit and return on the long trip south with a tough defeat.

In the day's final game, the Raiders picked up an impressive 68-113 victory over the Durham Wildcats at the Newton Aycliffe Leisure Centre.

Jeremy Bell led the scoring in the contest with an impressive 27 point haul for the Raiders.

After a first quarter that saw the Wildcats leading 18-16 at the end of it, the visitors dominated the remainder of the game and overhauled their opponents in emphatic fashion enjoying their biggest lead of the game at 48 points with the score at 62-110 with two minutes remaining in the contest.

The result meant the Raiders maintained their hold on fifth position in the Championship table.
