Patrons Cup: Newham keep semi hopes alive - Nov 20, 2012

66 52
Newham Neptunes kept their hopes of a spot in the Patrons Cup semi finals alive with a 66-52 victory over London Westside on Sunday.
The win puts Neptunes at 3-1 in Pool 2 and leaves the outcome of the pool in the balance awaiting their fixture against Loughborough Students Riders next weekend.
Neptunes led by only one at half time, but behind a balanced scoring effort that saw six players score 7 points or more they pulled away in the second half. Steve Vear led the way with a 14 points, 10 assist double-double.
A win for Newham against Loughborough will mean a three way tie at the top of the pool including Riders and Glamorgan Gladiators and qualification for the semi finals will come down to a head-to-head tie-breaker. Newham will need to record at least a double digit win against Riders to hold out hopes of progressing having lost 74-60 to Gladiators earlier in the campaign.

Delighting the crowd with a stellar performance, the American showed a complete skill set from the perimeter as well as in the paint to finish with a 32 point, 15 point rebound double-double. Blayne Freckleton (188-G) added 17 in support, including 3/4 from deep, and Stewart and Champion had 8. Jorge Ebanks (185-G-86) led Solent in reply,...   [read more]
