Newcastle Eagles have one foot in this seasons BBL Cup Final after stellar performances by Damon Huffman (186-PG-85) and Charles Smith helped the holders shoot down a shocked UCP Marjon Plymouth Raiders 107-90 in the first-leg of their semi-final match-up.

It was a case of dj vu for the Raiders as Smith tortured the hosts in the same we as hedid in last years Final by amassing a dazzling 29 points which was matched by point-guard Huffman.

There had been a continual downpour in the South-West leading up to the game, and once the action got underway at The Pavilions, there was a different kind of deluge for the Devon club to contend with as the Eagles shot the lights out from long-range with an eye-popping 17 successful three-pointers.

That will have delighted Eagles head-coach Fab Flournoy who didnt need to step on the court and was able to rest the leg injury he sustained against Cheshire 48 hours earlier in preparation for making sure his team finished the job in the second leg at Sport Central on Friday.

Another team happy with their weekend of work is London Lions who followed up their pulsating 20-point comeback against Worcester Wolves with a comfortable 86-60 success against basement dwellers Mersey Tigers to make it two league wins in three days.

Orlan Jackman continued his impressive rookie BBL season with a double-double of 15 points and 16 rebounds for Lions whilst Chris Bigley top-scored for Tigers who are still searching for their first win of the season.

In the other BBL Championship game to be played on Sunday night, Cheshire stole a march on their potential rivals for a play-off spot when they completed a fine 106-72 win against Durham Wildcats to jump into eighth place.

Chez Marks led the way with 26 points whilst veteran forward Shawn Myers claimed a double-double as the Northgate Arena celebrated a second consecutive home success.

Derby Trailblazers are looking forward to face Solent K. (#8) in Southampton in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Northumbria will play on the road against Lancashire S (#12) and is hoping to prove...   [read more]

BBL Round Up Sunday 23 Oct - 14 hours ago

There was plenty of history made on Sunday as the milestone of 1 million points scored in the BBL was achieved. Fab Flournoy won his 500th BBL game in his 600th BBL Championship appearance as Esh Group Eagles defeated Plymouth Raiders 84-92 behind Rahmon Fletcher's 32 points Leicester Riders improved to 8-0 with a 92-60 win over Leeds Force, while London Lions are also still unbeaten having defeated Manchester Giants 60-83 on the road. Meanwhile, Neil Watson (180-PG-91, college: S.Miss...   [read more]

BBL hits one millionth point milestone - 14 hours ago

There was a once in a generation milestone recorded in the BBL today as Deondre McWhorter(203-F-93, college: Georgetown, KY, agency: Inception Sports) of Worcester Wolves wrote himself into the history books. The forward took the honour of scoring the one millionth point in the BBL Championship and he did so in style as part of a perfect six of six shooting display from the open floor against Cheshire Phoenix. It proved to be an exciting countdown to the landmark, since three games were...   [read more]
