James' Joy At Victory - Dec 12, 2012

Worcester Wolves' coach Paul James had little doubt that his team's 88-73 victory against champions Newcastle Eagles will be the turning point in their season.

The Wolves welcomed back point guard Sherrad Prezzie-Blue and fielded new signing Kai Williams as they shocked the Eagles with only their second BBL Championship defeat of the season, to leave James a happy man:

"Our performance against the Eagles was our best of the season. I said last week that we are going to be a very different team know that we are at full strength, but to play as well as we did was down to a really good week of practise and so was very satisfying.

"Clearly having Prezzie back running the point is massive for us and this allowed Arturas [Masiulis] to dominate the way I know he can. Also Kai Williams in his first game was outstanding at both ends of the court ending up with 20 points and eight rebounds - the same as Arturas.

"The difference having Prezzie and Kai Williams on the team was clear for everybody who was at the game on Saturday against Newcastle to see and ultimately we got a very good win against the most successful team in the country. This was a real confidence boosting win for the Wolves, one we badly needed.

"However I must stress that it was the overall team effort that I was particularly happy with and we will look to build on the back of this very good performance. Kareem Maddox and Damon Huffman had good games for Newcastle."

The Wolves are without a game this weekend, but return to action at Worcester University on Saturday December 22 when Glasgow Rocks are the visitors in the BBL Championship before UCP Marjon Plymouth Raiders arrive in town on Friday December 28 for a BBL Trophy first round match-up.

Plymouth Raiders advanced to their first BBL final for five years as they overcame Worcester Wolves, despite losing 90-83 in the second leg. The Raiders had an 18-point cushion from the first leg but saw that advantage wiped out inside the first 15 minutes before recovering to complete the job. Donte Nicholas and Cory Dixon combined for 45 points for Plymouth, while Trevor Setty(203-G/F-89, college: Pikeville) had a game-high 26 points in an inspired display for the Wolves. The BBL Trophy Final is the goal. The Emirates Arena is the destination. And four teams are locked in a battle this weekend to get there. Plymouth Raiders hold the advantage over Worcester Wolves as they take an 18-point lead into tonight's second leg, which can be seen live on BBC Sport. The Wolves need to win the leg by 19 points to advance to the final with the Raiders looking to end a five-year wait since their last final in 2012. Local Coach Makes Good - 1 day ago
From Benfield Schoolboy attending a Hoops for Health session to Assistant Coach to the Esh Group Eagles Newcastle Senior Team and England Under 18's Assistant Coach too, quite a journey for Coach Ian Macleod . A young man that shows that The Newcastle Eagles Basketball Club is not all about success on the court and allowing young ballers to follow their dreams but also where careers can be carved out in other ways if the attitude and work ethic are right. Ian Macleod is a shining exampl...   [read more]
