BBL All-Time Championship Points Scoring Race Continues - Dec 21, 2012

There have been some changes since the start of the season in the All-Time BBL Championship scoring chart.

That's because there are a trio of veteran players who are currently in the Top 20 chart of All-Time scorers of league points and still contributing with their respective clubs this season.

The highest ranked player still strutting his stuff is Yorick Williams (192-G-75) (pictured) of Jelson Homes DMU Leicester Riders, who is into fourth sport on the list, and looks destined to have to settle for this with a Riders legend in Billy Singleton some 900 points ahead of him.

The next active player to have made a move in recent weeks is Shawn Myers of Cheshire Phoenix The forward entered the top ten this season after overtaking the hugely talented Tony Dorsey, and now he has arguably an even bigger legend Russ Saunders in his sights during coming weeks.

Certainly when it comes to points per game, nobody is truly anywhere near the 24.29 average of Saunders, although it would of course be great to also have the all important percentages and efficiency rankings too. But, as with most sports, comparing players in different eras is never an exact science.

The big question is whether Myers can stay healthy and score enough points in the BBL Championship between now and the end of the season to reach the top five, which would mean getting to at least 6001 points.

A top ten position looks to be beyond Sterling Davis (200-F-77, college: Tulane)s, but nevertheless, the Rocks player-coach is a creditable 14th in the chart having recently edged past John McCord.

Finally, Charles Smith may have been side-lined of late with a calf injury, but he has already passed James Hamilton into 17th place and notably, also exceeded the magical 5,000 points barrier which is almost now becoming a necessity just to get into the top twenty!
