Joe Chapman
Being in a title game is nothing new to Newcastle Eagles' guard Joe Chapman (193-G-84, agency: I.D.S. Law, college: Marquette)n, but he's still looking forward to facing Jelson Homes DMU Leicester Riders in Sunday's BBL Cup final.

"Of course I'm looking forward to it" said the reigning Molten BBL Most Valuable Player. "In seven years of my career I've been to 17 championship games, and I'm still really excited. It never gets old trying to win.

Chapman was a key component of last season's Eagles team which completed a clean sweep of all four BBL titles, but the 28-year-old is taking one competition at a time as Newcastle aim to become the first team to achieve the feat in consecutive seasons:

"Honestly, we put ourselves in a position to win every competition, but it's not something we really talk about. We're just trying to get better game by game and improve in practice. If we do all of that, the other things will fall into place."

The game is a repeat of last season's BBL Championship play-off final at the NIA in Birmingham, which Eagles won, but Riders have already gained a measure of revenge for that loss with a 75-63 road victory when the sides met in the BBL Championship in October.

Chapman is keen to make amends for that defeat: "We've been looking over the film, and we didn't play well, so we're excited to have the opportunity to put that behind us in a big game.

"I think Riders are a really good team. They're well balanced, big and athletic, and in many ways they're a typical European team in that you can't focus on one player as their whole starting five can get in double figures. We're very similar in that everyone contributes and on any night they can have a different top scorer.

"The game in October was a good test for us early on to get cobwebs out, and now we're looking forward to proving we're the better team. It's a great motivation to beat a team who you've lost to already.

"You really couldn't ask for a better final with the best two teams in country going head-to-head."

Eagles were without a game at the weekend, but Chapman was unconcerned about the break: "It really doesn't matter, we're a veteran team and we're playing well. We'll probably play the uni team [Division One side Team Northumbria] to keep our rhythm, we'll have some good practices and watch game tape."
