Paternostro Can't Wait For Cup Final - Jan 9, 2013

Jelson Homes DMU Leicester Riders' coach Rob Paternostro clearly can't wait to see his side in Sunday's BBL Cup final against the Newcastle Eagles.

"Before and after the Wolves' game on Saturday we had so many fans talking about how excited they are, and it really hit home how important this game is and how much everyone at Riders cares about going to a second final in a row" said the 39-year-old coach.

The game is a repeat of last season's play-off final which Eagles won 71-62, but Paternostro acknowledges that there are differences in the build-up between the two games: "These days are special to the fans, and they're really anticipating it. The Cup is different to the play-off final in that we've had time to prepare for it over the last few weeks. It's good that although we've known its coming we've been able to stay focused on the games in between. Everyone knows how difficult it is to get the final, so we're excited as a team to be back in another one. We've put a lot of hard work in so far this year and played well, so the anticipation is there for us."

With his team challenging for their first ever league title and in a second straight title game, Paternostro has clearly moved on following that loss to Eagles last season: "I think last year was a whole different team, and we don't look back at it with a new side in a new season" he said.

"It definitely hurt to lose the final, but I walked out of the NIA proud of our guys. The ball didn't go in at the free-throw line or from the perimeter, they gave great effort but to win a final you have to play well on the day. I think we've showed so far that we can play well in a big game.

"I think it will be a great game for the neutrals, we just have to make some shots this time."

BBL All-Star Five - Week 25 - 1 hour ago
With a packed weekend of BBL action, our line-up has barely had as much competition for a starting berth - here's who survived the cut. Brandon Clark (Leicester Riders) After slipping up against Wolves last Friday, the Riders' guard helped his team return to winning ways with a brilliant effort against Glasgow Rocks. Clark was the main architect of the victory with a stellar 9 of 11 from the field which returned 23 points. He also added six assists and three rebounds for good measure....   [read more]
