Nottingham Wildcats picked up their first win and there is a two-way tie for second after a pair of VCARS.co.uk D1 Women's games this weekend.
68 59
Nottingham Wildcats won their first game of 2012/13 by stunning Loughborough Students Riders 68-59 on Saturday.
Wildcats jumped out to an early 23-16 lead and managed to stay ahead of Riders throughout the game, backed by game high 19 points from Ijeoma Ofomata. Czech native Iva Peklova (193-F/C-86) scored 12 points in her Wildcats debut.
Mackenzie Westcott (182-F-90) had 16 to lead Riders.
43 48
NASSA nearly caused an upset of their own after a poor second half from Barking Abbey saw the visitors hang on for a 48-43 win.
Stars trailed 33-21 at the half, but strung together a 16-7 third quarter to enter the final period trailing by three. An even lower scoring fourth period saw Barking Abbey win 8-6 and the game was theirs.
The loss leaves NASSA winless this season (0-6); they were led on Sunday by Rochelle Davids' 19 points.
Melita Emmanuel-Carr scored 14 for Abbey, who now draw level with Riders in the table after their loss to Nottingham.
