Abromaite
It was a good weekend for the road teams in VCARS.co.uk Division 1 Women as all three games went the way of the visitors.
65 70
Our Game of the Week proved to be a good match-up as Loughborough Students Riders came from behind to record a 70-65 win at Leeds Carnegie on Saturday.
Leeds ended up being without recent big name signing Agne Abromaite (190-C/F-79), but they still managed to establish a 36-29 half-time lead. They saw that lead evaporate in the third as Loughborough scored 23 points and held Leeds to 12 to move in front.
Mackenzie Westcott (182-F-90) ended with 24 points for Loughborough as they held Leeds at bay in the fourth to stretch the lead by a single point and move two games clear of Carnegie in the table - keeping themselves in second position.
48 59
Nottingham Wildcats collected their second win in as many weeks, in the process moving within one win of Team Northumbria as they won 59-48 in Newcastle on Saturday.
It was a lopsided second quarter in Wildcats favour that decided the game as they turned a 15-11 first quarter deficit into a 39-23 half-time lead and held on the rest of the way.
Ijeoma Ofomata had 20 points and Siobhan Prior had 19, with Ta'Yani Clark leading the way for Northumbria on 18.
51 53
Manchester Mystics collected their second win of the season - and their first earned on the court - with an incredibly tight 53-51 win at Sevenoaks Suns on Saturday.
The teams scored exactly the same number of points as each other in the first, second and fourth quarters. The only period that didn't end tied was the third and Mystics snuck it 10-8 to take the advantage.
Nicola Blakeway led all scorers with 25 for Mystics as they pulled within a win of Suns in the league table.

Southwark Pride win Womens National Cup, down Team Solent Kestrels 57-22 - 1 day ago
Southwark Pride rode a dominant defensive performance to earn themselves the honour of being crowned National Cup Champions. A commanding 57-22 score line was built on a foundation of pressure and work rate that forced Solent into 22 turnovers and never allowed their offence to find a rhythm as they shot a crippling 7/64 from the field. Hitting their stride early, the Pride roared out to a 14-0 lead that set the tone for the contest. Commanding the glass 55-39, Southwark were also able to...   [read more]

WBBL Round-Up Sun 22 Jan - 2 days ago
Nottingham Wildcats, Sevenoaks Suns, Manchester Mystics and Cardiff Met Archers all won on Sunday as the WBBL Trophy action continued. Last week's Cup champions, Manchester, were given a late scare by Caledonia Pride before holding on for a 50-59 success as Dominique Allen tallied 16 points and 11 rebounds. Meanwhile, Nottingham bounced back with a 66-70 victory away at Team Northumbria with the visitors also having to hold off a late surge from their opponents to prevail. Cardiff came...   [read more]

Riders delighted to land Livermore - 2 days ago
Leicester Riders have bolstered their roster for the remainder of the season by adding American frontcourt star Erika Livermore(185-C-93). The Farleigh Dickinson University graduate averaged more than 16 points and eight rebounds per game during her Senior season and it's not surprising Riders' head coach Matt Harber is thrilled with his new recruit. He said: "We're really excited to have Erika join our team just before we get underway in the WBBL Trophy competition! 'Erika had a terr...   [read more]
