Despite the adverse weather conditions that put pay to one of the fixtures on Friday night, there were still two games to keep fans entertained as the Newcastle Eagles and Manchester Giants picked up impressive victories to keep their respective BBL Championship challenges alive.

The Eagles kept themselves on top of the table thanks to an impressive 107-86 victory over the One Health Sharks Sheffield at Sport Central.

An impressive 41-point haul from Joe Chapman (193-G-84, agency: I.D.S. Law, college: Marquette) helped the Eagles overcome their disappointment at losing the BBL Cup Final on Sunday. The home side lead for the vast majority of the game and
never really gave the Sharks the opportunity to settle into their game.

The home side enjoyed their biggest lead of the game at 28 points at the start of the final quarter thanks to a Kareem Maddox basket that took the score out to 80-52 and despite the Sharks closing the deficit back to 16 points at 95-79 with three minutes remaining in the contest, the home side held on for the impressive victory.

In the other game on Friday night, the Giants picked up another impressive victory as they defeated the high-flying Surrey Heat 85-68 at Wright Robinson College.

The Giants led from tip-to-buzzer and the result meant that they drew level with the London Lions in ninth position in the table, while the Heat remained in third place despite the defeat.

An 11-4 start to the contest set the tone for the remainder of the game as the Giants made light work of their opponents. A 12-2 burst in the final quarter gave the Giants their biggest lead of
the game at 21 points at 74-53.

David Watts was the main man for the Giants in the victory as he bagged 22 points for the home side in the victory and give the home fans plenty to celebrate.

Betway second stage - 4 hours ago
London Lions became the first team to reach the Betway All-Stars semi-final as they overpowered Bristol Flyers 24-6, and they were joined in the last four by Leicester Riders who overcame a disappointing golden buzzer period to defeat Sheffield Sharks 21-15 - the Yorkshire side not helped by Zak Gashette getting sin binned and being forced to play with four players for 30 seconds.
