The Jelson Homes DMU Leicester Riders regained a share of top spot in the BBL Championship as they beat the Mersey Tigers 84-54 in the East Midlands. The Riders made it four league wins in a row and remain unbeaten at home all season.

On a night when all twelve of the players on their roster scored, Jay Couisnard led the way with 18 points and Drew Sullivan (203-F-80, agency: Interperformances, college: Villanova) had 14; there were no double-doubles, although Anthony Rowe had 10 points and 9 rebounds, while Barry Lamble added 9 points and 10 rebounds. Joshua McGinn led the Tigers with 14 points.

The Riders edged some tight early exchanges as Couisnard opened proceedings with a three-pointer, and he scored Leicester's first 9 points - their only player to score in the opening 4 minutes. But the Tigers hung in and Joshua Lockett gave them a brief lead at 9-10. Zaire Taylor's three-pointer put the Riders back up 14-12 and that became a 7-0 burst before Sullivan hit a three-pointer in the final minute of the first quarter to help the hosts to a 24-16 lead.

And the Riders sent the lead into double-figures immediately in the second stanza as Taylor and Rowe scored the first baskets. The Tigers showed resilience as Jack Hudson's three-pointer capped a 7-0 response to get the score down to 29-23, but it was short-lived as Sullivan responded immediately with a triple and Pavol Losonsky put the lead above ten once more midway through the period. The Riders did most of the damage in the run up to half time as they held their visitors scoreless for over five and a half minutes, while pouring in the last 15 points of the half led by 5 points from Sullivan and a Jorge Calvo three-pointer. The Riders held the Tigers to just 9 points in the second quarter.

The Tigers kept it a little tighter after the break as the teams traded baskets and back-to-back scores from McGinn made it 58-35. But once again the Riders slammed the door shut late on in the quarter as, entering the last four minutes at 61-37, they allowed the Tigers just one more basket and scored 8 of the last 10 points themselves, including a Connor Washington three-pointer and Josh McSwiggan's first points in the BBL after his promotion from the Loughborough Student Riders.

The Riders took a 69-39 lead into the fourth, by which time the game was well beyond their visitors. The lead peaked after a 9-2 run as Lamble's 5 points helped the score out to 78-45 and, despite the Tigers narrowing it before the end, Alex Angelakos ensured that Leicester's winning margin remained at 30 as he scored his first BBL points.
