Here is the weekly review of the top performing British players, who play currently abroad.


Luol Deng

   #1. This week's number one is an international forward Luol Deng (206-85, agency: Interperformances, college: Duke, currently plays in NBA). Deng led Chicago Bulls to a victory against the Utah Jazz (29-24) 93-89 in the NBA last Friday. He recorded a double-double by scoring 15 points and getting 10 rebounds. Deng also added 4 assists. The Chicago Bulls have 30-21 record this season. It's Deng's ninth year with the team. He has individually a very good year with high stats. Deng averages: 16.9ppg, 6.8rpg, 3.0apg, 2FGP: 45.2%, 3FGP: 31.3% and FT: 82.0%. He has a dual citizenship: British and Sudanese. Deng is currently a member of the British senior national team.

   #2. Second place goes to former international forward Dante Cunningham (203-87, college: Villanova, currently plays in NBA), who plays in the NBA. He could not help the Minnesota Timberwolves (19-30) to beat the Memphis Grizzlies (33-18). Cunningham scored 9 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in 31 minutes. But the Minnesota Timberwolves were badly defeated 105-88 on the road by the Grizzlies. It was Timberwolves' fourth consecutive loss in a row. It's Cunningham's first season with the team. He has relatively good stats this year: 8.2ppg, 5.3rpg, 2FGP: 46.9% and FT: 58.9% in the 48 games he played so far. Cunningham is a naturalized American. He played for the British national team in 2008. Strangely Cunningham has never played in United Kingdom.

   #3. The British player who performed third best last week abroad was an international forward Joel Freeland (208-87, currently plays in NBA). He was not able to help the Portland Trail Blazers (25-27) in their game against the Orlando Magic (15-36) in the NBA. Freeland scored 6 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. The Portland Trail Blazers were defeated 110-104 in Orlando by the Magic. It was Trail Blazers' fourth consecutive loss in a row. Freeland's overall stats this season are: 2.3ppg, 2.2rpg, 2FGP: 39.2% and FT: 66.7%. He is also a member of the British senior national team.

Gordon recorded 9 points and added 7 passes in 24 minutes. But the Charlotte Bobcats lost 93-100 in Los Angeles to the Lakers. It was Bobcats' seventh consecutive loss in a row. Gordon has very impressive stats this year: 12.7ppg, 1.9rpg and 2.3apg in the 46 games. He is a naturalized American. Gordon is also British national team player. Apparently he has never played in United Kingdom.

International forward Myles Hesson (195-90, agency: Two Points, currently plays in Germany) contributed to a Weissenhorn Youngstars' victory against the sixth-ranked Bayer Giants (10-8) 85-76 in the German ProB (third division) last Saturday. He recorded a double-double by scoring 19 points and getting 17 rebounds. Hesson also added 4 assists and 2 blocks. Weissenhorn Youngstars (12-6) is placed second in Group South. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. There are only four games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. Hesson is currently seventh on the league's list of best rebounders. This season he has very high stats. Hesson averages: 19.1ppg, 9.9rpg, 1.4apg, 1.4bpg and 1.7spg. He plays currently for the British national team.

Power forward Alhaji Fullah (201-89, currently plays college basketball in the States) helped Charleston So. win their game against the Campbell University (5-6) 86-68 in the NCAA last Saturday. He recorded 9 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 23 minutes. The Charleston Southern University has a very solid 8-2 conference record this season. This year Fullah's overall stats are: 7.6ppg, 4.2rpg and 3.2apg in the 17 games. He is a former U20 international player as he played for the British team four years ago.

International point guard Andrew Lawrence (185-90, currently studies in the States) helped Charleston win their game against the Univ.of Tennessee - Chattanooga (5-7) 71-68 in the NCAA in Saturday night's game. He recorded 13 points in 35 minutes. The College of Charleston has a very solid 10-3 conference record this season. It was his team's sixth consecutive victory in a row. Lawrence is one of the most experienced players in a team as it's his fourth year in Charleston's roster. This season Lawrence has relatively solid stats: 11.2ppg and 5.8rpg in the 16 games. He is also British national team player.

   #8. Forward Will Neighbour (208-90, is currently at the American university) helped UALR win their game against the University of Louisiana at Monroe (2-12) 70-60 in the NCAA last Thursday. Neighbour scored 11 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. The University of Arkansas at Little Rock has a solid 9-5 conference record this season. Neighbour has reliable stats this year: 11.2ppg and 5.8rpg. He used to play for the British U20 national team back in 2010.

Former international power forward Tafari Toney (203-86, currently plays in France), who plays in the French ProB (second division) couldn't help Charleville-Mezieres (7-12) in their last game. Despite Toney's good performance Charleville-Mezieres lost 76-82 in Denain to the lower-ranked (#16) Voltaire. He had a double-double by scoring 12 points and getting 10 rebounds. Toney also added 3 assists and 3 steals in 29 minutes. Toney's stats this year are: 12.8ppg, 7.4rpg, 1.7apg and 1.5spg in the 22 games. He is a naturalized American. Toney used to play for the British national team four years ago. He played also for Newcastle Eagles in British league.

   #10. Guard Devon Van Oostrum (190-93, currently plays in Spain), who plays in the Spanish LEB Gold (second division) couldn't help Caceres Basket (7-10) in their last game on Friday. Despite Van Oostrum's very good performance Caceres Basket was defeated 71-67 in Pamplona by the higher-ranked Planasa NV (#6). He was the top scorer with 15 points. Van Oostrum's total stats this season are: 9.2ppg, 2.3rpg and 2.1apg. He is an international player who is currently on the senior British National Team roster.

   #11. Former U20 international guard Ben Mockford (188-89, currently plays college basketball in the States), who plays in the NCAA couldn't help the St.Francis, NY (5-7) in their last game. Despite Mockford's very good performance the St.Francis, NY lost 77-84 in Smithfield, RI to the Bryant University. He scored 15 points in 25 minutes. This year Mockford's total stats are: 9.2ppg, 2.3rpg and 2.1apg in the 17 games. He used to play for the British U20 national team four years ago.

   #12. U20 international point guard Josh Owen-Thomas (186-92, currently plays in Canada) helped University of Calgary win their game against the Bobcats crushing them 88-63 in the Canadian university league CIS in Friday night's game. Owen-Thomas recorded 11 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 32 minutes. Owen-Thomas has averaged so far 7.6ppg, 3.6rpg, 1.8apg and 1.1spg in the 20 games. He is also in the roster of the British U20 national team.

   #13. Former U20 international center Fahro Alihodzic (208-89, currently plays college basketball in the States) helped UAB win their game against the Marshall University 75-61 in the NCAA on Saturday night. Alihodzic recorded 8 points and grabbed 9 rebounds in 32 minutes. Alihodzic averaged so far 11.7ppg, 4.5rpg and 4.0apg in the 21 games. He used to play for the British U20 national team four years ago.

   #14. International point guard Ogooluwa Adegboye (182-87, college: St.Bonaventure, currently plays in Cyprus) helped Etha win their game against the closely-ranked Apollon 96-83 in the Cypriot Division A in Wednesday night's game. Adegboye scored 6 points and added 5 passes. Adegboye has averaged so far 8.4ppg, 2.3rpg, 3.0apg and 1.3spg. He plays currently for the British national team.

   #15. Former international power forward Dzaflo Larkai (203-81, agency: Top Notch Sports, college: Bellarmine, currently plays in Japan) helped Okinawa GK win their game against the tenth-ranked Miyazaki Shining Suns 75-59 in the Japanese BJ League last Saturday. Larkai scored 8 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 17 minutes. Larkai has averaged so far 8.9ppg and 5.5rpg in the 30 games. He used to play for the British national team five years ago.

   #1. Byron Mullens (213-C-89, college: Ohio St., currently plays in NBA) led Charlotte Bobcats to a 3-point victory over the Boston Celtics (27-24) 94-91 in the NBA in Monday night's game. He was MVP of the game. Mullens had a double-double by scoring 25 points and getting 18 rebounds. He also added 4 assists in 43 minutes. The Charlotte Bobcats have not so impressive 12-39 record this season. It was his team's first victory after seven consecutive loses. Mullens has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 12.6ppg, 8.1rpg and 1.5apg in the 32 games he played so far. Mullens is a naturalized American. Strangely he has never played in United Kingdom.

   #2. Experienced Darren Phillip (201-F-78, college: Fairfield, currently plays in Argentina), who plays in the Argentinian LigaA could not help Union Progresista (10-24) in their last game on Friday. Despite Phillip's very good performance Union Progresista was badly defeated 95-76 on the road by the much higher-ranked Quimsa (#8). He was the top scorer with 24 points. Phillip also added 7 rebounds (was perfect 12-for-12 from the free throw line !!!). Phillip is currently first on the list of top scorers and also on the list of best rebounders (second place). This season he has very high stats. Phillip averages: 19.0ppg, 10.9rpg and 1.4apg. He is a naturalized American. Interesting that Phillip has never played in United Kingdom.

   #3. Oladapo Ayuba (198-F-86, college: UMKC, currently plays in Sweden) was the major contributor in a 3-point Norrkoping Dolphins' victory against the league outsider Nassjo (5-22) 91-88 in the Swedish Basketligan in Tuesday night's game. He scored 18 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 23 minutes. Norrkoping Dolphins (19-2) is placed second in the Basketligan. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. Ayuba is one of the most experienced players in a team as it's his fourth year in Norrkoping Dolphins' roster. This season Ayuba has relatively solid stats: 10.4ppg, 5.0rpg and 1.5apg in the 26 games. He is a naturalized American. Interesting that Ayuba has never played in United Kingdom.

   #4. Mike Helsby (195-G/F-89, currently plays in Canada) led Waterloo University to a victory over the Mustangs (2-17) 83-66 in the Canadian university league CIS on Wednesday night. Helsby was MVP of the game. He scored 25 points, had 8 rebounds and dished 6 assists in 38 minutes. The Waterloo University has rather weak 4-15 record this season. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. This year Helsby's overall stats are: 7.6ppg, 4.2rpg and 3.2apg in the 17 games. He has a dual citizenship: British and Canadian.

   #5. Keith Rendleman (203-F-90, currently plays college basketball in the States) contributed to NC-Wilmington's victory against the Georgia State University (6-5) 76-72 in the NCAA in Wednesday night's game. Rendleman recorded a double-double by scoring 15 points and getting 10 rebounds. He also added 2 blocks. The Univ. of N.Carolina-Wilmington has rather weak 2-4 conference record this season. Rendleman is one of the most experienced players in a team as it's his fourth year in NC-Wilmington's roster. Rendleman's overall stats this season are: 7.6ppg, 4.2rpg and 3.2apg.

   #6. Andrew Thomson (205-F-84, college: Catawba, currently plays in France) was the main contributor in an La Rochelle's victory against the 13th-ranked Saint Chamond 83-66 in the French NM1 (third division) on Saturday night. Thomson was MVP of the game. He recorded a double-double by scoring 21 points and getting 11 rebounds. This season Thomson has relatively solid stats: 11.2ppg and 5.8rpg.

   #7. Olumide Oyedeji (210-C-81, currently plays in Japan), who plays in the Japanese JBL was not able to help Tochigi Brex (9-21) in their last game on Saturday. Despite Oyedeji's good performance Tochigi Brex was crushed 89-60 in Tokyo by the second-ranked Toyota Alvark. He recorded a double-double by scoring 10 points and getting 15 rebounds. Oyedeji has averaged so far 9.5ppg and 9.8rpg. He is another player who holds two passports: Nigerian and British.

   #8. Sullivan Phillips (198-G/F-79, college: Wash.Adventist, currently plays in Germany) contributed to a BG Goettingen's victory against the seventh-ranked Ehingen/Urspringschule 73-64 in the German ProA (second division) last Saturday. Phillips scored 10 points and added 3 assists. Phillips averaged so far 11.7ppg, 4.5rpg and 4.0apg. He has both Bermudas and British nationalities.

   #9. Gerald January (201-C-88, college: Montevallo, currently plays in Norway) helped Ammerud Bskt win their game against one of league's weakest teams Asker Aliens crushing them 92-56 in the Norwegian BLNO on Saturday night. January was MVP of the game. He recorded a double-double by scoring 24 points and getting 13 rebounds. January also added 4 assists and 4 blocks. This season January has very high stats. He averages: 21.3ppg, 9.7rpg, 2.3apg, 1.7bpg and 1.3spg. January is a naturalized American. Interesting that he has never played in United Kingdom.

   #10. Alex Murphy (185-PG-88, currently plays in Denmark) helped Naestved win their game against the closely-ranked Randers 80-77 in the Danish Ligaen on Wednesday night. Murphy scored 7 points and added 6 passes. Murphy is ranked fifth on the list of the best passers in the league. He has very reliable stats this season: 11.7ppg, 2.9rpg, 4.7apg and 1.2spg.
