There were road wins for the two leading BBL Championship contenders on Sunday night as both Jelson Homes DMU Leicester Riders and Newcastle Eagles grabbed essential victories to continue their relentless pursuit of the league title.

After Newcastle dropped a game to Cheshire Phoenix at Sport Central last Friday night, it was the turn of Riders to face the Phoenix. And, they had to really work hard to escape with a 69-60 victory at Northgate Arena having trailed by six points at the half.

Slovakian forward Pavol Losonsky (203-F-88, college: Cal-Irvine) was the hero with a 24 point haul which was essential with Riders' perimeter game almost non-existent.

Eagles meanwhile won in more convincing fashion with a 96-79 success at UCP Marjon Plymouth Raiders to bounce back to winning ways which will delight player-coach Fab Flournoy who made a return from injury.

Anthony Martin stood out with 18 points on his return to the Pavilions, whilst Charles Smith and Kareem Maddox both claimed double-doubles. Matt Schneck top scored for Raiders with 24 points.

Glasgow Rocks find themselves back in third spot after they cruised to a 99-73 win at Durham Wildcats - a victory powered by a stunning 30 point effort from player-coach Sterling Davis

WBBL Round Up Sat 25 March - 1 day ago
The history keeps on happening in the WBBL and it proved to be a landmark and dramatic Saturday as Caledonia Pride came back from a double-digit deficit to stun Westfield Health Sheffield Hatters 79-78 and take a first ever home floor victory. Natalie Bastian sunk the crucial free-throws at the death and also top-scored, but it was a pair of go-ahead triples from Scottish guard Hannah Robb heading into crunch time which made the difference. There was then drama at the unveiling of the...   [read more]
