BBL Birmingham has today announced the signing of their Head Coach, Paul "Dougie" Douglas, in preparation for their launch in September.

The launch of the team, which is owned and managed by local sport business consultancy, Oaks Consultancy Limited, will mark the return of professional basketball to the city.

Dougie brings a wealth of playing and coaching basketball to the team, having previously been a professional player for 13 seasons at EBL Division 1 and BBL levels. He has coached EBL Division 1 clubs, college academies, England juniors, Nike Basketball clinics, NBA Mad Skillz UK Tour and Midnight Madness Los Angeles tour. Since returning to his home of Birmingham he started the All City Basketball Programme and is the Director of Coaching for the City of Birmingham Club. He was also Assistant Coach for the BBL Birmingham Panthers in 2007.

Jo Aldridge, Director of Oaks Consultancy said: "Dougie is clearly very experienced and is also very passionate about representing his city in the BBL. We're thrilled to offer him the opportunity to help bring professional basketball back to Birmingham and I know he is wholeheartedly focused on creating a team of enthusiastic, passionate and skilful players that will entertain, inspire and generate success.

"We'll soon be on the lookout for players who are just as devoted in representing Birmingham as he is! Dougie will also play a key role in the local community by representing our charity, the Birmingham Sports and Education Foundation, in schools. We look forward to a long term partnership with Dougie."

Paul "Dougie" Douglas added: "The job of being the Head Coach for the BBL Birmingham Franchise in next season's BBL campaign is a huge honour. I could not feel more excited about leading my home city in the top tier of British basketball and I am also looking forward to working towards establishing the BBL Birmingham brand across the city.

"Birmingham has a rich history of basketball and the fans are very knowledgeable about the game. With this in mind I will do my utmost to try and bring those glory days back and give the fans a style of basketball that they will want to watch each and every week."

Dougie starts his campaign with trials being held at the Doug Ellis Sports Centre on the 18th and 19th May. If you would like to know more about how to take part email info@bblbirmingham.co.uk
