Pops
Mensah-Bonsu
Cajasol Banca Civica Sevilla (ACB) landed 30-year old British ex-international forward Pops Mensah-Bonsu (206-83, college: G.Washington, agency: SportsTalent). He supposed to play at Maccabi Electra Tel-Aviv in Israeli Winner League. The last season Mensah-Bonsu played at Besiktas (TBL) in Turkish league. In 33 games he averaged 12.8ppg and 7.8rpg. He helped them to win the league title (in both Turkish League and EuroChallenge !!!) and the cup. It was a very successful season in his career as he was awarded Eurobasket.com All-Turkish League Center of the Year, selected to 1st Team and selected to All-Imports Team. Mensah-Bonsu also played 11 games in EuroChallenge where he had very impressive stats: 18.5ppg, 11.8rpg, 1.3apg and 1.0bpg. He contributed to his team winning the EuroChallenge championship. He can count that season as a very successful as was awarded Eurobasket.com All-EuroChallenge Player of the Year, Eurobasket.com All-EuroChallenge European Player of the Year and Eurobasket.com All-EuroChallenge Defensive Player of the Year.
The previous (10-11) season Mensah-Bonsu played at ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket (ProA) in French league. In 14 games he had also remarkable stats: 16.5ppg, 9.3rpg, 1.3apg and 1.4spg. He contributed to his team making it to the semifinals. Mensah-Bonsu also played at the Hornets in NBA earlier that season. But in 7 games he had just 0.3ppg and 1.6rpg. He also spent pre-season at Caja Laboral earlier that year. He contributed to his team making it to the supercup semifinals.
In 2009-10 season Mensah-Bonsu played at CSKA Moscow (PBL) in Russian league. The team played in three different competitions (!!!) that year, and he was exposed to basketball on different levels. In 12 PBL games he had 6.7ppg and 4.6rpg. He contributed to his team winning the league title. Mensah-Bonsu also played 9 games in Euroleague where he had 4.1ppg and 1.3rpg. He also played 2 games in VTB United League where he had only 2.5ppg, 3.0rpg and 1.0bpg. Mensah-Bonsu received All-Atlantic 10 Most Improved Player of the Year award back in 2004 at his college time. Mensah-Bonsu also represented United Kingdom at the Olympic Games in London (United Kingdon) last year. His stats at that event were 4 games: 11.5ppg, 7.3rpg, 1.0apg, FGP: 45.5%, FT: 76.2%.
Mensah-Bonsu has played also professionally in Italy, NBA (New Orleans Hornets, Houston Rockets, San Antonio Spurs and Toronto Raptors) and D-League (Austin Toros).
He attended George Washington University until 2006 and it is his seventh season in pro basketball.
Let's have closer look into Mensah-Bonsu's outlook: An inside operator who grew up almost 4 inches during the last year of high school and the first of college. Has an incredible leaping ability for a man his size and he's yet working on his game around the basket. Can finish with thunderous dunks and intimidates in the middle. He's also a good rebounder and forces the opponents to make a lot of fouls on him, but he should improve his FT prcentage and his outside shooting to play at the top European level.
