Charles
Smith
Experienced naturalized American Charles Smith (198-F-75) had an amazing evening in the last round for league's second-best Newcastle E. and that's him to receive a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 26.
The 37-year old forward had a double-double of 22 points and eleven rebounds, while his team outclassed, the league's bottom-ranked team Mersey Tigers (#12, 0-24) with 43-point margin 100-57. Newcastle E. maintains the 2nd position in American BBL. Newcastle E. has a very good season and are considered to have a run for the championship title. They improved their record to 20-2. In the team's last game Smith had a remarkable 60.0% from 2-point range. He has many years of experience at Newcastle E., through which he has constantly improved. Rider University graduate has very impressive stats this year. Smith is in league's top in points (3rd best: 21.5ppg) and averages solid 44.8% from behind 3-point line.

The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was 28-year old American forward Frank Holmes (206-F-84) of Surrey Heat. Holmes impressed basketball fans with 22 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists. Of course Surrey Heat cruised to a 87-78 relatively comfortable win over the lower-ranked Cheshire P. (#10, 8-18). Surrey Heat's 6th position in the standings has not changed. His team lost some distance to top teams. But 15-9 record is not bad and everything may still change. Holmes is a newcomer at Surrey Heat and it seems he did not have too much trouble to become one of team's leaders.

The third best performed player last round was American Alif Bland (203-C-89) of Cheshire P. (#10). Bland scored 19 points and grabbed thirteen rebounds (!!!). Despite Bland's great performance Cheshire P. lost 78-87 to the higher-ranked Surrey Heat (#6, 15-9). But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates. The chances of Cheshire P. not to end season at such low position in the league, however are less than slim as they have already lost 18 games, recording just eight victories. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Bland could try to bring Cheshire P.'s a little bit higher in the standings. Bland has individually a great season in United Kingdom. After 24 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 8.8rpg (7th best). He also has 2.7bpg and FGP: 55.4%.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Travis Holmes (193-G-86) of Surrey Heat - 22 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists
5. Darrius Defoe (204-F-84) of Newcastle E. - 13 points and 14 rebounds
6. Joe Chapman (193-G-84) of Newcastle E. - 26 points, 3 rebounds and 4 assists
7. Mike Baldarelli (193-F/G-89) of Durham W. - 16 points, 10 rebounds and 2 assists
8. Jamie Vanderbeken (210-F-87) of Glasgow Rocks - 16 points and 8 rebounds
9. Shawn Myers (198-G/F-69) of Cheshire P. - 14 points, 13 rebounds and 2 assists
10. Rod Brown (186-PG-78) of London Lions - 15 points, 4 rebounds and 9 assists

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)

Manchester drop curtain on Senior Playoff Finals with D1M win - 2 days ago
Manchester retained their D1M Playoff title after a comfortable 73-53 win over Loughborough. A poor 2nd quarter where the Riders fell behind and shot just 2/15 from the floor proved too much to overcome against a well drilled and talented Magic side. Unable to call upon the injured Josh Ward-Hibbert, Loughborough struggled to find answers on offence for the duration. With the game meandering through the 2nd half, an altercation between Lee Goldsborough and Jonas Dieterich during a loose b...   [read more]

Kent add playoff glory to league winning season - 2 days ago
In a tightly contested game that was fit for a final, Kent managed to outlast rivals Thames Valley 90-87. Consistently playing catch up in the final quarter after a poor 3rd period, the Cavs rallied from a double digit deficit before coming up just short on the final buzzer. Trailing by 3 with less than 10 seconds on the clock, Thames Valley had one last roll of the dice to try and force the game into OT. Inbounding the ball to star man Martelle McLemore (197-G/F-88, college: W.Michigan),...   [read more]
