Experienced naturalized American Charles Smith (198-F-75) had an amazing evening in the last round for league's second-best Newcastle E. and that's him to receive a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 26. The 37-year old forward had a double-double of 22 points and eleven rebounds, while his team outclassed, the league's bottom-ranked team Mersey Tigers (#12, 0-24) with 43-point margin 100-57. Newcastle E. maintains the 2nd position in American BBL. Newcastle E. has a very good season and are considered to have a run for the championship title. They improved their record to 20-2. In the team's last game Smith had a remarkable 60.0% from 2-point range. He has many years of experience at Newcastle E., through which he has constantly improved. Rider University graduate has very impressive stats this year. Smith is in league's top in points (3rd best: 21.5ppg) and averages solid 44.8% from behind 3-point line.
The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was 28-year old American forward Frank Holmes (206-F-84) of Surrey Heat. Holmes impressed basketball fans with 22 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists. Of course Surrey Heat cruised to a 87-78 relatively comfortable win over the lower-ranked Cheshire P. (#10, 8-18). Surrey Heat's 6th position in the standings has not changed. His team lost some distance to top teams. But 15-9 record is not bad and everything may still change. Holmes is a newcomer at Surrey Heat and it seems he did not have too much trouble to become one of team's leaders.
The third best performed player last round was American Alif Bland (203-C-89) of Cheshire P. (#10). Bland scored 19 points and grabbed thirteen rebounds (!!!). Despite Bland's great performance Cheshire P. lost 78-87 to the higher-ranked Surrey Heat (#6, 15-9). But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates. The chances of Cheshire P. not to end season at such low position in the league, however are less than slim as they have already lost 18 games, recording just eight victories. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Bland could try to bring Cheshire P.'s a little bit higher in the standings. Bland has individually a great season in United Kingdom. After 24 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 8.8rpg (7th best). He also has 2.7bpg and FGP: 55.4%.
Other top performing players last week: 4. Travis Holmes (193-G-86) of Surrey Heat - 22 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists 5. Darrius Defoe (204-F-84) of Newcastle E. - 13 points and 14 rebounds 6. Joe Chapman (193-G-84) of Newcastle E. - 26 points, 3 rebounds and 4 assists 7. Mike Baldarelli (193-F/G-89) of Durham W. - 16 points, 10 rebounds and 2 assists 8. Jamie Vanderbeken (210-F-87) of Glasgow Rocks - 16 points and 8 rebounds 9. Shawn Myers (198-G/F-69) of Cheshire P. - 14 points, 13 rebounds and 2 assists 10. Rod Brown (186-PG-78) of London Lions - 15 points, 4 rebounds and 9 assists
The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc. The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy. The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)

Gordon was also a member of USA international program for some years. He played for USA Senior National Team back in 2003 and previously for U18 National Team in 2000. Gordon represented USA at the Qualifications to European Championships 2017 last year. His stats at that event were 6 games: 9.2ppg, 4.2rpg, 3.3apg, FGP: 26.3%, 3PT: 34.6%, FT: 72.7%. Gordon has spent his entire career in NBA playing for two other teams: Detroit Pistons and Charlotte Hornets. Gordon could be described:
Athletic combination guard with high basketball I.Q. .Superb leaper with excellent shooting range.
Outlook (by NBADraft.TK):
Positives: Ben Gordon is a great combo guard. A great scorer with a versatile offensive game. He is a deadly three-point shooter. Not just a long-range bomber, he has a good midrange game and is a good free throw shooter. Has the ability to take it strong to the hoop with exceptional strength and quickness for his size. Has a great handle as and is also good passer. Gordon is also a great athlete. Very quick and has great leaping ability. Has a near 40-inch vertical, which allows him to throw down impressive dunks despite his size. A solid defender, he uses his strength and lateral quickness well. A good rebounder for the guard position.
Negatives: Not a natural point guard. Gordon's ability to run the point os questionable. He played shooting guard at UConn with Taliek Brown as the point. Might be better at the shooting guard, but will have to play point guard in the NBA. (Jason Terry, Steve Francis). Can be a streaky shooter.
