Great Britain outscore Israel at Surrey Sports Park in the start of the Surrey Sports Park tournament. The home side posted a 73:64 win over Israel in Guildford. Great Britain started with an 8:2 run, but allowed the guests to catch up with them later in the half. Rachel Vanderwal (176-G-83, college: Boston U.) pulled her side with a 10-2 run in the third quarter that saw them go 54:41 clear. The team from Israel replied with a 12-0 run and later took 60:59 advantage. Great Britain needed another run to seal the victory in their opener. Stefanie Collins (168-PG-82, college: St.Bonaventure) and Rachel Vanderwal top-scored for the winners with 12 points each. Liron Cohen (173-G-82) replied with 13 points in the losing effort. Tomorrow Great Britain will take on Germany. The latter lost their opener to Greece 42:61 in the first game of the tournament. Greece will face Israel in another game of Day 2.

GB face Israel, Germany and Greece in the British Basketball Invitational Tournament 2013 presented by Standard Life at the home of Surrey Heat, and Damien Jennings is clearly looking forward to his sides only games on home soil this summer.

GB face Israel, Germany and Greece in the British Basketball Invitational Tournament 2013 presented by Standard Life at the home of Surrey Heat, and Damien Jennings is clearly looking forward to his sides only games on home soil this summer.
Were really excited about playing at home over the weekend and showing people what weve done this summer," he said.
Weve had a great training camp and I think it will be great for the players to put themselves against three different teams in as many days. It simulates EuroBasket and is an important part of our build-up.
Its a fresh team in the sense that were missing four or five of the Olympic players, but the younger players have done so well in the first couple of weeks. The senior players have been a tremendous help and we have a special chemistry. So to be on home soil this weekend is exciting for us and we hope we get a lot of support.
Damien Jennings and his team have played three warm-up games so far this summer, following up a pair of losses against Belarus in Lithuania with a victory against Henley Academy under-19 mens team, and the GB coach was pleased with the win: Henley are linked with Reading Rockets and it was a good test for us. They had some decent big men and they pressured us up the floor, which is something we need to get used to.
Belarus offered us the test we needed early in the summer programme. They had a lot more on the floor than us with their defensive schemes, and they knew their go-to people. So to hold them to a three point game, after wed checked the stats, was encouraging and the scoreboard in the second game [a 14 point defeat] didnt really paint the full picture. We had some good open looks early in the game when they built a big lead but went on a good run to get back within five before one of their players had a bit of field day but it was the kind of test we needed.
While Israel and Germany have been regular opponents for GB over the last few years, Damien Jennings is excited about playing Greece for the first time: Its great to add another quality country to our fixture list, Im not sure why weve never played them before, but Im looking forward to it.
While GB will be using this weekends games as part of their preparation for EuroBasket Women in France in June, their three opponents will be warming up for the first stage of qualifying for the 2015 finals. Germany and Israel will meet each other in the competition along with Portugal, and FYR of Macedonia, while Greece are in a group with Estonia, Luxembourg and Netherlands. Connecticut Sun released 26-year old British international small forward Johannah Leedham (180-87, college: Franklin Pierce).
This season Leedham played at Cercle Jean Mace Bourges (LFB) in French league. In 13 games she had 8.7ppg, 4.5rpg, 1.7apg and 1.6spg this season. She helped them to win the league title despite they ended the regular season at the second place. Leedham also played 8 games in EuroLeague where she recorded 8.4ppg, 5.1rpg, 1.4apg and 2.0spg. The last season she played at Bulleen Boomers (WNBL) in Australian league. In 17 games she recorded 10.0ppg, 5.1rpg, 2.1apg and 2.6spg last season. She contributed to her team making it to the final after they ended regular season as second best team. A very impressive season as she was named to Australiabasket.com All-Australian WNBL Honorable Mention. The previous (10-11) season Leedham played at AZS Gorzow Wielkopolski (PLKK) in Polish league. In 16 games she recorded 10.8ppg, 4.4rpg, 1.5apg and 2.2spg that season. Quite impressive year as she was named to Eurobasket.com All-Polish PLKK Honorable Mention and All-Bosmans Team. She also played 9 games in Euroleague where she recorded 9.7ppg, 3.1rpg, 1.2apg and 2.1spg (in top 5). Three years ago Leedham was drafted by Connecticut Sun (WNBA) in third round (27th overall). She attended Franklin Pierce University (NCAA Div.II) until 2010 and it is her third season in pro basketball. Leedham was voted Daktronics All-NCAA D2 1st Team back in 2010 at her college time. Leedham was also a member of British international program for some years. She played for British Senior National Team between 2008 and 2012 and previously for University National Team in 2009. Leedham represented United Kingdom at the Olympic Games in London (United Kingdon) last year. Her stats at that event were 5 games: Score-2 (16.2ppg), 5.2rpg, 2.2apg, Steals-3 (2.4spg), FGP: 38.1%, 3PT: 20.8%, FT: 85.7%.
