Kieron
Achara
Gareth Murray and Kieron Achara (208-F/C-83, college: Duquesne, agency: Two Points) lead Glasgow Rocks to victory over Bristol Flyers, to start a long weekend for them as they now head down to Plymouth Raiders tomorrow.

BBL Championship
Bristol Flyers 60 (8,28,40) (Ali 19, Smith 14, Cosby 9)
Glasgow Rocks 74 (16,29,52) (Murray 20, Achara 18, Elechi 14)

Glasgow Rocks strengthened their third place position in the BBL Championship on Saturday night, beating Bristol Flyers 74-60, and extending their winning run against this opposition to nine games since 2014.

The Scottish duo of Gareth Murray and Kieron Achara were the inspiration, with the former shooting 69% on his way to 20 points, while the latter posted a big double-double of 18 points and 12 rebounds. But defence was the story of the game, as Glasgow put in their best defensive performance since the opening night.

Rocks came into the game having lost three of their last four road games, but got off to a quick start in this one with a 12-4 opening as Murray scored twice on the inside, while Achara and Neil Watson added three-pointers.

In a low-scoring start, Rocks - the second best defence in the BBL - restricted Flyers to just two first quarter field goals, on 12% shooting, including a seven minute spell where they didn't score from open play.

That soon changed as Flyers enjoyed their best spell in the second stanza, responding with a 12-2 start as Hameed Ali scored five in a row to give them a temporary lead at 20-18.

But Anthony Elechi came from the bench to make an 'and-one' play that halted that momentum in a run of seven unanswered, before he ended the night with 14 points and nine rebounds.

And Rocks continued to make scoring hard for their hosts, before effectively sealing the game when they came alight in the third quarter with an 11-2 burst as Watson hit a triple, before Achara did likewise and the score reached 52-38.

The hosts kept pushing, particularly through Hameed Ali as he ended with 19 points, but Rocks kept them at arm's length as Gareth Murray - the league's most accurate shooter - scored nine points early in the fourth to make the finish comfortable and inflict only a second defeat in nine games on the in-form Flyers.
