Levett Essex Leopards have announced that they have parted company with coach Steve Ogunjimi , with the play-caller leaving the Big Cats by mutual consent.A run of ten straight league defeats have seen the Leopards drop to second-from-bottom in NBL Division One, and with four games remaining the club's board of directors felt that a change was necessary in the hope of avoiding relegation.
'We'd like to thank Steve for everything he has done for the clubs, and we genuinely part as friends' said general manager Dave Ryan.
'Steve's been a fantastic part of both the original and current Leopards, and it was a difficult decision for everyone at the club but he agreed with us that something had to change.
'While we haven't enjoyed the success we'd have liked since Steve took over, he led us to a fantastic victory against Manchester Giants in the BBL Trophy and prior to the recent run we've had some enjoyable times under his coaching.'
Luck certainly hasn't been on the Big Cats' side this season, with season-ending injuries to Darrell Bethune and Alex Scotland-Williamson as well as long term injuries to Mike Martin and, earlier in the season, Justin Hitchman.
'I know Steve's give 100 percent, unfortunately it just hasn't worked out' continued Ryan. 'He will always be welcome at the club,
'Hopefully the players will turn things around on the court, starting at the Brentwood Centre on Sunday.'
Leopards expect to make an announcement regarding coaching arrangements for the rest of the season on Thursday.
