Zalgiris storm to victory - Sep 23, 2017

Axel Toupane
Zalgiris won the inaugural Titans Trophy with a 87-61 victory against Twarde Pierniki Torun at the Copper Box on Friday evening.
A big attendance at the London venue saw the Lithuanian champions roared on by the majority of the crowd as they dominated the final three period against a short-handed Torun team.
The Polish side finished runners-up in their domestic league last season but were without three key players, and despite a good first period Dejan Mihevc's team were unable to match their opponents.
French international Axel Toupane (197-G/F-92, agency: BeoBasket) led the way for Zalgiris with 17 points in 25 minutes, with Arturas Milaknis finishing with 14 points in under 17 minutes and Paulius Jankunas had an efficient 11 points and four rebounds in 19 minutes.
Aaron Cel (19) and Krzysztof Sulima (17) led Twarde, each finishing with five boards, wiith Lukasz Wisniewski (186-SG-84, college: Barton Co. CC) the only other player in double figures with ten points, but a 32-22 advantage for the Lithuanians on the boards played a key part.
Sulima won the tip and hit the first two baskets of the game to put the Poles 4-0 ahead and in a scrappy opening five minutes Gruszecki put them 9-6 with a score from downtown.
Zalgiris took their first lead of the game with 2:17 when Kavaliauskas grabbed the rebound after his initial shot was blocked and scored before completing a three point play.
But a Sulima free-throw and a Cel basket sent the Poles into the first break with an 18-17 lead.
That proved to be as good as it got for a side who must have felt like the road team in front of 5000 Lithuanians, and Masiulis' dunk gave Zalgiris a lead they would never lose with 8:15 on the clock and Milaknis capped a 15-5 run to close the half and leave his team with a 42-28 lead going into the locker room.iulis
Sulima cut the lead to eight with a little under three second half minutes gone, but that proved to be as close at Twarde came during the rest of the game and Masiulis' jumper sent the Lithuanians into the final break with a 64-47 lead.
Wisniewski opened the scoring for Twarde in the fourth period but the lead never dipped below 15 as a party atmosphere saw Zalgiris comfortably close out the win.
