The Regular Season in VTB United League just started. The fans could enjoy quite many interesting games in the last round.

VEF Riga - Triumph 101-78

One of the most interesting games of the last round was the first loss of Russian Triumph Lyubertsy (0-1) on the court of Latvian VEF Riga. Visitors were rolled over by VEF Riga 101-78. VEF Riga led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They shot the lights out from three nailing 12 long-distance shots on high 57.1 percentage. Triumph Lyubertsy was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. American-Bulgarian guard Earl Rowland (188-83, college: St.Mary's, CA) stepped up and scored 24 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and Lithuanian center Antanas Kavaliauskas (207-84, college: Texas A&M, agency: Interperformances) chipped in 14 points and 7 rebounds. At the losing side Canadian power forward Kyle Landry (207-86, college: N.Arizona) responded with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds and American point guard Tywain McKee (188-86, college: Coppin St.) scored 10 points, 7 rebounds and 9 assists. Five VEF Riga and four Triumph Lyubertsy players scored in double figures. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. VEF Riga will play against Neptunas in Klaipeda in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Triumph Lyubertsy will play on the road against Zalgiris in Kaunas to get more than just one victory in their record.

Khimky - BC Astana 104-75

There was a small surprise when leader Russian Khimky (1-0) crushed Kazakhstan BC Astana (1-1) in Khimki 104-75 on Monday. Khimky led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They made 19-of-25 free shots (76.0 percent) during the game. Khimky outrebounded BC Astana 37-23 including a 30-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. They shot the lights out from three sinking 15 long-distance shots on high 65.2 percentage. Khimky looked well-organized offensively handing out 33 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by BC Astana's players. It was a very good performance for guard Vitaliy Fridzon (195-85, agency: Alti Sport) who helped to win the game recording 15 points and 5 assists. Finnish point guard Petteri Koponen (194-88) contributed with 13 points and 7 assists for the winners. American center David Simon (208-82, college: IPFW) answered with 18 points and 5 rebounds and the other American import point guard Jerry Johnson (182-82, college: Rider, agency: Beo Basket) added 14 points and 5 assists in the effort for BC Astana. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

Spartak St.Petersburg smashed Lithuanian Lietuvos rytas at home 75-48. The game was mostly controlled by Spartak St.Petersburg. Lietuvos rytas managed to win third quarter 15-11. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Spartak St.Petersburg dominated on the defensive end, holding Lietuvos rytas to just 6 points in fourth quarter. Worth to mention a great performance of Greek center Loukas Mavrokefalidis (207-84) who helped to win the game recording 19 points and 7 rebounds. American point guard Patrick Beverley (185-88, college: Arkansas) contributed with 15 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. Lithuanian Renaldas Seibutis (198-85) answered with 15 points and forward Mindaugas Katelynas (206-83, college: Chattanooga) added 7 points in the effort for Lietuvos rytas. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games.

PGE Turow - Kalev/Cramo 80-81

An interesting game was also tough home loss of Polish PGE Turow in a game in Zgorzelec versus Estonian Kalev/Cramo (#4) 81-80. PGE Turow was very close to get their first win. But it seems they have to wait a little bit longer. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 31-21. But PGE Turow won second period 21-14. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Kalev/Cramo won last quarter 18-19. American point guard Keith McLeod (190-79, college: Bowling Green) nailed 25 points for the winning side and swingman Gregor Arbet (195-83) accounted for 12 points and 5 rebounds. Four Kalev/Cramo players scored in double figures. Serbian center Ivan Zigeranovic (212-84, agency: BeoExcell) came up with 17 points and 8 rebounds and Serbian guard Djordje Micic (195-83) added 19 points respectively for PGE Turow in the defeat. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

BC Nizhny Novgorod (VTB) added to their roster 23-year old forward Dmitrii Uzinskiy (200-90kg-93). He played last season at Sakhalin in the Superleague 1. In 33 games he recorded 5.5ppg and 2.8rpg. Lowery managed to play in three leagues in two countries last year. In 12 BBL games he had 10.6ppg, 3.8rpg, 2.2apg and 1.3spg.
