Regular Season Day 5: Neptunas - Zalgiris 62-90 (18-23, 14-26, 12-20, 18-21)
Date: November 4, 2012 There was no surprise when 9th ranked Neptunas (1-4) were outleveled by first ranked Zalgiris (4-1) in Klaipeda 90-62 on Sunday. The game without a history. Zalgiris led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Neptunas' 28. Zalgiris forced 24 Neptunas turnovers and outrebounded them 46-26 including a 21-8 advantage in offensive rebounds. Neptunas were plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Center Ksistof Lavrinovic (210-79) orchestrated the victory by scoring 16 points and 5 rebounds. American guard Oliver Lafayette (188-84, college: Houston) contributed with 15 points for the winners. Four Zalgiris players scored in double figures. Forward Deividas Gailius (200-88) answered with 15 points and 6 rebounds and American forward David McClure (198-86, college: Duke) added 6 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for Neptunas. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Zalgiris have a solid series of four victories in a row. Defending Lithuanian champion maintains first place with 4-1 record, which they share with CSKA and Khimky. Loser Neptunas dropped to the eighth position with four games lost. Zalgiris will face Enisey Krasnoyarsk (#7) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Neptunas will play against BC Nizhny Novgorod and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
