Regular Season Day 5: Neptunas - Tsmoki-Minsk 110-106 OT (19-25, 33-22, 17-20, 21-23, 20-16)
Date: October 31, 2012 Everything could happen in Klaipeda at the game between two tied teams. Both ninth ranked Lithuanian Neptunas and bottom-ranked Belarusian Tsmoki-Minsk had identical 0-4 record. This time Neptunas used a home court advantage and defeated the opponent from Minsk 110-106 on Wednesday night. The hosts trailed by 6 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 5-point lead at the halftime then Tsmoki-Minsk managed to tie the game at the end of regular time. However that was Neptunas who were better in overtime eventually winning that period 20-16. Tsmoki-Minsk was plagued by 34 personal fouls down the stretch. Guard Martynas Mazeika (191-85, agency: Interperformances) orchestrated the victory by scoring 33 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds. Center Vytautas Sarakauskas (204-82) contributed with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 13 rebounds for the winners. Aliaksandr Kudrautsau (190-80) answered with 37 points (!!!) and 5 assists (was perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line !!!) and Dzianis Korshuk (200-78) added 8 points and 10 rebounds in the effort for Tsmoki-Minsk. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Tsmoki-Minsk's coach Andrei Krivonos tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Neptunas (1-4) left bottom position moving up to eighth place, which they share with 3 other teams. It was Tsmoki-Minsk's fifth loss in a row. Defending Belarusian champion still closes the standings with five games lost. Neptunas will face higher ranked BC Nizhny Novgorod (#6) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Tsmoki-Minsk will play against the league's second-placed CSKA Moscow (#2) and will have a slim chance for a victory.
