Regular Season Day 5: Khimky - Unics 85-74 (19-18, 24-16, 24-15, 18-25)
Date: November 12, 2012 One of the most interesting games of round 5 was a derby match between two teams from Russia. The game took place in Khimki where third ranked Khimky won against visiting Unics Kazan (3-2) 85-74. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Unics Kazan. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The game was mostly controlled by Khimky. Unics Kazan managed to win fourth quarter 25-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Khimky looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Croatian-Bosnian guard Zoran Planinic (198-82) nailed 18 points and 5 rebounds (perfect from the field making all seven shots !!!) for the winning side and American forward James Augustine (208-84, college: Illinois, agency: Priority Sports) accounted for 13 points and 6 rebounds. Five Khimky players scored in double figures. Greek power forward Kostas Kaimakoglou (206-83) came up with 20 points and 4 steals and forward Igor Zamanskiy (202-77, agency: Alti Sport) added 10 points respectively for Unics Kazan in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Khimky (4-1) keeps a position of league leader, which they share with CSKA and Zalgiris. Unics Kazan at the other side dropped to the third place with two games lost. They share the position with 5 other teams. Khimky will meet at home Kalev/Cramo (#9) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Unics Kazan will play against Azovmash (#8) in Mariupol and hope to secure a win.
