Regular Season Round 9: Sidigas AV - Enel Brindisi 81-71 (15-15, 19-25, 15-11, 32-20)
Date: November 25, 2012 We should mention about the upset which took place in Avellino, where higher ranked Enel Brindisi (4-5) lost to fifteenth ranked Air Avellino (3-6) in a road game 71-81 on Sunday. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Enel Brindisi. The hosts trailed by 2 points after three quarters before their 32-20 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Air Avellino forced 23 Enel Brindisi turnovers and outrebounded them 39-26 including 27 on the defensive glass. Enel Brindisi was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was American guard Mustafa Shakur (193-84, college: Arizona) who scored 26 points and 6 assists (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field). His fellow American import power forward Linton Johnson (203-80, college: Tulane, agency: Priority Sports) chipped in a double-double by scoring 15 points and 18 rebounds. Four Air Avellino players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was international swingman Jeffrey Viggiano (198-84, college: Massachusetts) who recorded 21 points and American point guard Scottie Reynolds (188-87, college: Villanova) added 8 points and 11 assists respectively. Enel Brindisi's coach Pier Luigi Bucchi rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Air Avellino moved-up to eleventh place, which they share with Umana VE and Angelico BI. Newly promoted Enel Brindisi dropped to the ninth position with five games lost. Air Avellino will face higher ranked Montepaschi Siena (#3) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
