Regular Season Day 6: Khimky - Kalev/Cramo 77-67 (24-21, 17-12, 17-19, 19-15)
Date: November 19, 2012 Not a big story in a game in Khimki where 8th ranked Estonian Kalev/Cramo (1-5) was defeated by second ranked Russian Khimky (5-1) 77-67 on Monday. The game was mostly controlled by Khimky. Kalev/Cramo was better in third quarter 19-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Khimky looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Kalev/Cramo's players. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Khimky made 7 blocks. Croatian-Bosnian guard Zoran Planinic (198-82) scored 14 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) to lead the charge for the winners and American forward James Augustine (208-84, college: Illinois, agency: Priority Sports) chipped in 13 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists during the contest. The best for the losing side was U.S. Virgin Islands center Frank Elegar (208-86, college: Drexel) with 17 points and 6 rebounds and swingman Gregor Arbet (195-83) scored 9 points and 6 rebounds. Khimky keeps a position of league leader, which they share with CSKA and Spartak SP. Kalev/Cramo lost fifth consecutive game. Defending Estonian champion keeps the eighth place with five games lost. Khimky will face Lietuvos rytas (#6) in Vilnius in the next round where they are favorite. Kalev/Cramo will play on the road against Azovmash in Mariupol and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
