Date: December 17, 2012 Not a big story in a game when 5th ranked Russian BC Nizhny Novgorod (4-5) was defeated at home by second ranked Lithuanian Zalgiris (7-1) 76-58 on Monday. The game without a history. Zalgiris led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They made 24-of-29 free shots (82.8 percent) during the game, while BC Nizhny Novgorod only scored seven points from the stripe. BC Nizhny Novgorod was plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. Center Ksistof Lavrinovic (210-79) stepped up and scored 16 points and 6 rebounds (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!) for the winners and Croatian guard Marko Popovic (185-82, college: S.Idaho JC, agency: Alti Sport) chipped in 12 points. The best for the losing side was Vadim Panin (203-84, agency: Alti Sport) with 11 points and 9 rebounds and Semen Antonov (202-89) scored 9 points and 8 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Zalgiris have a solid series of three victories in a row. Defending Lithuanian champion maintains second place with 7-1 record having just one point less than leader CSKA. BC Nizhny Novgorod lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the sixth position with five games lost. Zalgiris will face Lokomotiv (#3) in Kuban in the next round, which may be the game of the day. BC Nizhny Novgorod will play on the road against CEZ Nymburk and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
