Very important is a road loss of third ranked Russian Khimky (7-3) against sixth ranked Kazakhstan BC Astana (5-4) on Monday night. Visiting Khimky was defeated by BC Astana in Astana 92-77. It looked good early as Khimky took an 8-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then BC Astana took control and eventually winning the game that evening by 15 points. They made 29-of-37 charity shots (78.4 percent) during the game. BC Astana outrebounded Khimky 34-22 including 26 on the defensive glass. 25 personal fouls committed by Khimky helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American-Montenegrin guard Brion Rush (186-84, college: Grambling St., agency: Beo Basket) notched 22 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists (made all of his seven free throws) to lead the effort and Serbian swingman Branko Cvetkovic (200-84, agency: Beo Basket) supported him with 22 points and 7 rebounds. Even 20 points by guard Vitaliy Fridzon (195-85, agency: Alti Sport) did not help to save the game for Khimky. Croatian-Bosnian guard Zoran Planinic (198-82) added 8 points for lost side. Khimky's coach Rimas Kurtinaitis tested eleven players and allowed the starting five to rest. Defending Kazakhstan champion moved-up to fifth place. Khimky at the other side keeps the third position with three games lost. BC Astana's next round opponent will be Azovmash (#8) in Mariupol.
