Date: January 27, 2013 Rather expected game in Badalona where 11th ranked Unicaja Malaga (8-11) was defeated by eighth ranked FIATC Joventut (10-9) 79-71 on Sunday. The hosts trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 11-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 79-71. FIATC Joventut made 17-of-22 free shots (77.3 percent) during the game. They also forced 19 Unicaja Malaga turnovers. It was a great evening for American forward Tony Gaffney (204-84, college: Massachusetts) who led his team to a victory scoring 14 points and 6 rebounds. Forward Pere Tomas (202-89) helped adding 13 points. Five FIATC Joventut players scored in double figures. At the losing side American guard Marcus Williams (191-85, college: Connecticut) responded with 11 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists and the former international center Fran Vazquez (209-83) scored 16 points and 5 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. FIATC Joventut have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain eighth place with 10-9 record, which they share with Asefa Estudian. Unicaja Malaga lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the eleventh position with 11 games lost. FIATC Joventut will face Blancos de Rueda (#15) in Valladolid in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Unicaja Malaga will play at home against Lagun Aro GBC (#18) in San Sebastian.
