Regular Season Day 14: Unics - Khimky 76-70 (22-17, 12-15, 24-22, 18-16)
Date: February 10, 2013 One of the most interesting games of round 14 was a derby match between two teams from Russia. Fourth ranked Unics Kazan won against visiting Khimky (10-4) 76-70. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Khimky. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 22-17. But Khimky won second period 15-12. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Greek power forward Kostas Kaimakoglou (206-83) notched 21 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals to lead the effort and Greek power forward Ian Vougioukas (212-85, college: St.Louis) supported him with 13 points. Even 14 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists by guard Vitaliy Fridzon (195-85, agency: Alti Sport) did not help to save the game for Khimky. Sergey Monya (202-83) added 14 points and 5 rebounds for the guests. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Unics Kazan moved-up to third place, which they share with Khimky and Lokomotiv. Unics Kazan will meet Azovmash (#10) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Khimky will play against Kalev/Cramo (#8) in Tallinn and hope to secure a win.
