Regular Season Day 13: Triumph - Zalgiris 69-70 (16-20, 21-17, 22-22, 10-11)

Sixth-ranked Russian Triumph Lyubertsy (6-7) made lots of trouble for first ranked Lithuanian Zalgiris (12-1) in Lubertsy on Tuesday. The visitors from Kaunas managed to secure only one-point victory 70-69. However their fans expected much easier game. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Triumph Lyubertsy. Triumph Lyubertsy was tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. Zalgiris made 20-of-26 free shots (76.9 percent) during the game. Paulius Jankunas (205-84, agency: Alti Sport) stepped up and scored 13 points and 6 rebounds for the winners and American guard Oliver Lafayette (188-84, college: Houston) chipped in 7 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. At the losing side Sergey Karasev (202-93) responded with 23 points and Canadian power forward Kyle Landry (207-86, college: N.Arizona) produced a double-double by scoring 12 points and 10 rebounds. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. The victory was the eighth consecutive win for Zalgiris. Defending Lithuanian champion maintains first place with 12-1 record. Loser Triumph Lyubertsy keeps the sixth position with seven games lost. Zalgiris will meet at home VEF Riga (#4) in the next round. Triumph Lyubertsy will play against BC Nizhny Novgorod and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
